Results: Augusta-area high school softball, cross country, volleyball athlete of the week

The results are in and it's time to announce the readers' choice for Augusta-area high school fall sports athlete of the week.

Lakeside softball’s Cassidy Jenkins took the top spot with 67.74 percent of the vote. Thomson softball player Tania Hickson (19.03) finished second and Lakeside cross country runner Sophie Marley (4.64) placed third.

Below are the nominees from last week's softball, volleyball and cross country action, each with outstanding performances for their teams over the week. Augusta-area high school fall sports athlete of the week nominees

Claire Clements, Harlem softball

Clements tossed eight shutout innings in a 5-0 win over Greenbrier Monday, outdueling Lady Pack pitcher Taylor Schneider through a scoreless seven frames.

Kendall Lanclos & Myah Obleton, Lakeside volleyball

Lanclos recorded 57 kills and 17 aces while Obleton racked up 105 assists in wins over Grovetown, Harlem, Arabia Mountain, Apalachee, Athens Academy and Jackson County last week.

Tania Hickson, Thomson softball

Hickson went 7-for-8 at the plate with a double and an RBI in games against Lakeside and Oglethorpe County last week.

Cassidy Jenkins, Lakeside softball

Jenkins allowed one earned run over 12 innings last week in wins over Thomson and Burke County. Over those 12 frames, she struck out 24 batters and walked just one.

Maddy Harl, Grovetown softball

Harl went 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBI in a game against Effingham County Tuesday.

Carolina and Caitlyn Rivers, Richmond Academy volleyball

Carolina and Caitlyn recorded 29 and 27 kills, respectively, in wins over Aquinas, Greenbrier and Evans last week.

Jane Pennington and Katie Trapp, Davidson Fine Arts Volleyball

Pennington (7 aces, 19 kills, 7 assists, 22 digs) and Trapp (38 assists, 8 aces, 22 digs, 5 kills) led the Titans to wins over Putnam County, Eastside, A.R. Johnson and Richmond County Technical Career Magnet last week.

Marit Hoover, Westminster Schools of Augusta volleyball

Hoover recorded seven aces and 21 assists in a win over Augusta Prep Monday.

Glenn Graves, Evans cross country

Graves (17:29.85) took the top spot in the Elite Varsity Boys’ 5K at the Westside Speedway Invitational at Diamond Lakes last week.

Sophie Marley, Lakeside cross country

Marley (23:49.23) took the top spot in the Elite Varsity Girls’ 5K at the Westside Speedway Invitational at Diamond Lakes last week.
