Volleyball Playoffs: Wooster, Smithville, Waynedale highlight area's contenders
If the regular season is any indication, area volleyball fans are in for one exciting postseason.
With four teams earning a share of their respective conference titles, and a handful of others coming in with high seeds in their respective divisions, local teams are expected to make some noise in the OHSAA Sectional/District Tournament.
Wooster comes into the week on the heels of an undefeated regular season and a fourth consecutive Ohio Cardinal Conference championship and will look to continue that success in the Division I playoffs but will need to get through the likes of Magnificat and Olmsted Falls to get to the final.
Regular Season Highlight: Waynedale beats Smithville, avenges early-season loss
Both Smithville and Waynedale shared the Wayne County Athletic League and could possibly meet again with a D-III regional berth on the line. Triway, the Principal Athletic Conference champ, could have a say in that as its expected to be the Smithies district semifinal match.
Hiland, who went a perfect 13-0 in Inter-Valley Conference play, could also see a familiar opponent in a potential D-IV district final as Strasburg, who they just defeated in four sets this past Saturday, could be the team it will need to get through.
No matter what happens, the postseason looks to have some intriguing potential contests on the road to the Final Four next month at Wright State.
