Here’s who the Vikings selected on Day 3 of the 2024 NFL Draft
It couldn’t have worked out much better for the Vikings on Day 1 of the 2024 NFL Draft, as they swung for the fences by taking quarterback J.J. McCarthy and edge rusher Dallas Turner. They added what could end up being pillars on offense and defense. It was a home run in terms of what they hoped to achieve.
That aggressiveness, however, cost the Vikings all of their picks on Day 2, which left them watching helplessly as dozens of prospects left the board.
That wasn’t the case on Day 3 as general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah and head coach Kevin O’Connell got back to work, following their process with hopes of adding more depth to the roster.
Here’s a look at who the Vikings selected:
Khyree Jackson (Round 4, Pick 108)
College: Oregon
Position: Cornerback
Size: 6 feet, 4 inches, 195 pounds
Analysis: He’s a giant for the position and projects as a player who could thrive in press coverage based on the physicality with which he plays the game. He also has some good speed for somebody of his stature, showcasing that at Oregon in college and then running the 40-yard dash in 4.50 seconds at the NFL Combine in March. All of that fits the mold of what defensive coordinator Brian Flores is looking for in a cornerback. Though he will have to work on his technique to succeed at the next level, he provides good value considering where the Vikings were able to get him.
Walter Rouse (Round 6, Pick 177)
College: Oklahoma
Position: Offensive tackle
Size: 6 feet, 6 inches, 315 pounds
Analysis: He’s got a ton of experience in the trenches with 52 starts under his belt while playing at Stanford and Oklahoma. His strength is undoubtedly his prowess in pass protection. According to Pro Football Focus, Rouse did not allow a sack in 481 pass-blocking snaps last season. He will have time to develop into a potential swing tackle with the Vikings. He won’t be starting anytime soon, though, with left tackle Christian Darrisaw and right tackle Brian O’Neill already in place.
Will Reichard (Round 6, Pick 203)
College: Alabama
Position: Kicker
Size: 6 feet, 1 inch, 185 pounds
Analysis: He connected on more than 95% of kicks under 40 yards in college. He also showed the ability to hit for over 50 yards if given the chance. Maybe the most impressive thing about Reichard is that he consistently kicked in high-pressure situations. The moment was never too big for him.
Michael Jurgens (Round 7, Pick 230)
College: Wake Forest
Position: Center
Size: 6 feet, 4 inch, 310 pounds
Analysis: He played center and guard at Wake Forest in college. That position flexibility will help give him a chance to make the team out of training camp. He has showcased good hand positioning and good footwork on tape.
Levi Drake Rodriguez (Round 7, Pick 232)
College: Texas A&M Commerce
Position: Defensive tackle
Size: 6 feet, 4 inch, 290 pounds
Analysis: He has a really good motor that helped him find steady playing time at Texas A&M Commerce. He has taken a rather unconventional path to get to this point and that determination bodes well as he tries to find a niche at the next level.
