Vikings QB Kirk Cousins now has his 2022 salary of $35 million fully guaranteed

Vikings QB Kirk Cousins’ level of play has left the Minnesota fan base divided.

Cousins is one of the better quarterbacks in the NFL. His stats are undeniable. That said, there is a case to be made that Minnesota should look elsewhere for a quarterback who’s in the upper-echelon of the elite. Without that, it becomes difficult to win, assuming your quarterback is on a big contract.

And that’s the kind of contract Cousins is on. The Vikings extended him last offseason. On his current deal, Cousins was set to have his 2022 base salary guaranteed on Friday and that became official before this article was published. As Chris Tomasson of the Pioneer Press first pointed out, Cousins has a $35 million base salary with $45 million cap number for 2022.

This, of course, makes Cousins’ deal all the more difficult to get out of for the Vikings. Barring anything unexpected, Minnesota is relatively locked up with Cousins’ contract until it runs out after the 2022 NFL season.

RB Dalvin Cook, DE Danielle Hunter and FB C.J. Ham all have their guarantees kick in as of Friday, too.
