Video: Finding the wacky and wonderful at the Winter Meetings trade show
When you think of baseball’s Winter Meetings, you most frequently think trades and free-agent signings. You probably don’t think about the Baseball Trade Show, but it is one of the more fascinating parts of the event.
The trade show is a hodgepodge of people trying to sell baseball-related products. But not necessarily to consumers. Since all the minor- and major-league teams come to the Winter Meetings — which were held last week at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando — the trade show features businesses trying to sell things to baseball teams. It’s where you go if you need a new outfit for your mascot or new seats for your stadium. Or even new ketchup.
It’s where you can find life-size bobbleheads, Hall of Fame plaques, weird minor-league jerseys, huge bats and championship rings, and lots lots more.
Yahoo Sports walked the Winter Meetings trade show, looking for the wonderful and the wacky. We found both, as you’ll see in the video above. We also found a pro wrestler and Mr. Belding. All in all, that goes for a W on the scoreboard. Oh, and they sell scoreboards too.
