Vic Reading's big night at Dixie Bowl the latest sign of a comeback year

The 2023-24 season is shaping up to be a big comeback season for Vic Reading, who notched a 700 series last week at Dixie Bowl.

Vic Reading's 2023-24 season is off to a blazing start in the Sunday Mixed Nuts League at Dixie Bowl. And this hot start is in stark contrast to his largely pedestrian scoring production in a subpar 2022-23 season in the same league, but at a different bowling venue.

Two notable differences that jump off the stat sheet deal with the stark contrast with his average and 600-plus scores. In all of last season in MNL action. he only compiled a total of four 600s, with a 631 the highest. And after only one month this season, he's already booked a pair of 600s and one 700. And in terms of average comparison, he finished with a 180 last season, and as this baby goes online and the print edition of The Spectrum & Daily News hits the streets, he has a 204 average,

Granted, it's only after one month, but here's betting his outstanding September and October scoring production is a window into what his scoring will look like for the rest of the season. Besides, he has a history over the last roughly dozen years of finishing a season with a high average between 194 and 200, and even  a 202 in the 2020-21 season.

So let's pivot to Sunday's action when he pummeled Dixie Bowl with games of 245, 237 and 218 for a 700 series in what's shaping up to be a powerful comeback season.

Hi career-high game is 299, and also has thrown a 290, 280 and multiple 279s.

He graduated from Alta High School in Sandy, Utah where he also played soccer and was also on the ski team. After high school, he continued playing competitive soccer, softball, and these days also loves playing golf..

Reading was a highly regarded teacher for 28 years in the Washington County School District before taking a teaching position at Dixie Technical College in 2022.

In other pin action, Brendan Thomas (720-259) finished atop the scoring food chain, while his dad, Todd Thomas (682-242) also had a strong outing, and Gage Petersohn (633-266) a student at Utah Tech University is putting together a standout season.

Patrick Webster (665-248) raised his Dixie Ten Pins average to 217, Ron Hanson (663-252) is getting his scoring touch back, big Russ Harkins (651-233) is averaging a mouthwatering 232 in DTP league play, and it is great seeing Tim Brandt (607-244) mowing down pins, while Ron Goch (603-245) scratched out a 600.

In single game action, Joseph Graham (705) shot another 279 with 11 strikes (yes, a 10 pin), Bill Stauffer (705) had 10 strikes in a 277, and Lew Agius (702) played two softball games in the morning in the Huntsman Games, and later that day in the Industrial League)fired 10 strikes in a 267.

Jared Bundy (605) chucked a clean 268, Brent Pollock loves both his Pittsburg Steelers and 240 game, Kyle Kidman popped a 226, and Daryl Brooks posted a 222.

In some terrific women's pin action, Debbie Lehnen  became just the 9th woman bowler to roll a 299 in the history of bowling in St. George. Bowling on lane 11, she ran the front 11 and after leaving a 9 pin on her final shot fell a pin shy of a 300. After tacking on a 219 and 165, she finished with a stellar 683 set.

Her resume sports a career-high 715 series, is an avid fan of the L.A. Dodgers, and is heavily involved in cat rescue.

And it should be noted the other 8 who've bowled a 299 in st. George are Annette Chugg, Ann Rasmusen, Autumn Telford, Carol Jones, Gayla Ruesch, Kathy McIff, Kathy Laninovich and Nina Gibson.
