The 2023-24 Vermont high school winter season has begun. See below for scores, schedules and game details (statistical leaders, game notes) from basketball, hockey, gymnastics, wrestling, Nordic/Alpine skiing and other winter sports.

C: Freddie Bacon 17 points. Vinny Wagoner 14 points.

Note: Rice led 37-25 at the break and 52-34 through three quarters before unloading a 30-point fourth quarter to seal the program's seventh straight Final Four berth and 36th overall. In coach Paul Pecor's 21 seasons, Rice is 33-1 at home in the playoffs.

Note: Morehouse's fourth 3-pointer broke a 41-all contest in the overtime period and Eaton secured the win at the foul line as the defending champs marched to their fifth Final Four bid in as many seasons.

B: Musa Kasanga 21 points. Henry Tornwini 14 points.

SJ: Harry Geng 30 points. Aidan Brody 10 points.

Note: A run late in the third quarter gave BHS a 51-46 lead. Then in the fourth, a Kasanga dunk helped the Seahorses pull away to book the program's first Final Four appearance since 2017 and 51st overall.

No. 4 Rutland 58, No. 13 Mount Mansfield 44

R: Dez Krakowka 17 points, 4 steals. Jaiden Cole 12 points, 7 rebounds.

MM: River Hadley 10 points. Owen Bradeen 9 points.

Note: MMU held a 11-10 lead after the first quarter, but host Rutland uncorked a 12-0 spurt in the second quarter and didn't relinquish the lead from there to advance to the program's 38th Final Four.

D-II boys basketball quarterfinals

No. 1 Hartford 48, No. 9 Lamoille 41

H: Christian Hathorn 19 points.

L: Colby Hall 15 points.

Note: Hartford reaches its first semifinal round in 40 years. Hawthorn poured in six 3-pointers, his sixth giving the Hurricanes a 44-32 advantage in the fourth.
