Vermont Green FC returns to Virtue Field: What to know for the 2024 season

Vermont Green Football Club will bring a 2-0 record into its home opener this weekend at Virtue Field.

Vermont Green opened its third season in USL League Two with a pair of clean-sheet victories on the road, topping Boston City Fire FC 2-0 and Black Rock FC 2-0. Burlington's pre-professional development club welcomes Pathfinder FC on Saturday for its first home match of the 2024 campaign and its first in front of its ardent supporters since hosting a pair of Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup contests earlier this year.

Former MLS player from Somalia joins Vermont Green FC

Siad Haji, a 24-year-old midfielder who previously played in the MLS, has been picked up for the summer by Green FC.

"Siad Haji is a dynamic player that will bring a lot to the table here in Vermont," coach Adam Pfeifer said in a statement."His quality and his experience on the field, on top of his unique ties to our local community, will make him a leader in the squad and a key part of achieving our goals in 2024."

Haji, a member of the Somalia national team, was the second overall pick in the 2019 MLS SuperDraft by the San Jose Earthquakes. He is the first Green FC player with first team appearances in MLS.

The Kenya-born Haji grew up in Manchester, New Hampshire, and spent three years in the U.S. youth national system. He played collegiately for New England College and Virginia Commonwealth, where he was the Atlantic 10 midfielder of the year.
