Vanderbilt football in weather delay vs. Wake Forest due to lightning: See new start time

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Vanderbilt football's game against Wake Forest entered a lightning delay less than 10 minutes after kickoff. The game is expected to resume at 12:06 p.m. CT, according to an official announcement from Wake Forest.

With just 2:01 of the first quarter having elapsed and the Demon Deacons facing third-and-goal at the six-yard line after returning an AJ Swann interception to the 10, referees called for the delay. Neither team had scored at the time of the stoppage.

Although it was not raining in Winston-Salem at the time of the delay, NCAA rules state that a game must pause for a minimum of 30 minutes if lightning is detected within eight miles of Allegacy Federal Credit Union Stadium. It later began raining and the stadium was cleared.

No timetable for restart was immediately available.

The Commodores (2-0) are facing the Demon Deacons (1-0) in the first of two straight road non-conference games. Vanderbilt also had a lightning delay before kickoff in its opener against Hawaii. That delay lasted for one hour and 40 minutes.

When will Vanderbilt football vs. Wake Forest resume?

Wake Forest said that the game was to resume at 12:06 p.m. CT. The delay lasted two hours.
