Vanderbilt football injury updates: Why Martel Hight, De'Rickey Wright left vs. Florida

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Vanderbilt football cornerback Martel Hight suffered a hip injury during the second quarter against Florida, while De'Rickey Wright wasn't able to finish the game as he continues to deal with a high ankle sprain, coach Clark Lea said Saturday after the Commodores' 38-14 loss to Florida.

Wright started the game but after taking a hit around the ankle area wasn't able to finish the game. It is unclear exactly which play he took that hit on, but he was seen not in full uniform in the third quarter. It is unclear whether either he or Hight will be available next week against Georgia.

Jaylen Mahoney did not dress for the game with an undisclosed injury. He should be back next week, Lea said.

Quarterback AJ Swann was available but did not play for the second straight game. Lea indicated that Swann was not at 100% as he deals with an elbow contusion, but his absence also is partially performance-based. Lea said Seals was better at avoiding turnovers.
