Vanderbilt baseball's best walk-up songs for 2024 include Jason Aldean, Michael Jackson. Here's full list

Vanderbilt baseball has an eclectic mix of walk-up songs in 2024 — everything from country to rap to metal.

Gone are last year's mix of songs that included Metallica's "For Whom the Bell Tolls" for closer Nick Maldonado and Miley Cyrus' "Party in the U.S.A." for shortstop Jonathan Vastine. Still, three players are using the same song as last season: Chris Maldonado walks up to "In the Air Tonight" by Phil Collins; Sam Hliboki to "Run This Town" by Jay-Z, Kanye West and Rihanna; and Bryce Cunningham to "Bury My Bones" by Whiskey Myers.

Here are some of The Tennessean's favorite walk-up songs from a list provided by a program spokesperson:

Ethan McElvain: 'Kickstart My Heart' by Mötley Crüe

When Ethan's brother, Chris McElvain, was at Vanderbilt, he also warmed up to metal songs. But "Kickstart My Heart" feels like the perfect choice for a power-armed relief pitcher like McElvain who should intimidate plenty of opposing batters.

Colin Barczi: 'P.Y.T.' by Michael Jackson

There's nothing like a young college player dipping into the archives for an iconic throwback song. Chris Maldonado does it, too, by walking up to Phil Collins, but Michael Jackson takes it a step further in terms of something fans of all ages should recognize.

Barczi hasn't seen an at-bat yet this season, but whenever he does, this is sure to be a popular choice.

Carter Holton: 'Mr. Carter' by Lil Wayne and Jay-Z

It's always fun when a player does a play on their name for a walk-up song. But this song's lyrics are also appropriate.

"Tell me, where have you been, 'cause they've been asking, they've been searching" certainly could apply to a pitcher who served as the staff's ace before going down with an injury late in the 2023 season. Now Holton is back, and this seems an appropriate way to announce his return.

Braden Holcomb: 'No Sleep Till Brooklyn' by the Beastie Boys

Several pitchers opted for hard rock, but Holcomb is the only position player walking out to something of this style — appropriate for a player, who at 6-foot-4 and 257 pounds, has an imposing presence in the batter's box. Generation X fans certainly will appreciate Holcomb's use of the Beastie Boys, and the song seems like one that could become a favorite of the faithful at Hawkins Field.

Jacob Humphrey: 'Crazy Town' by Jason Aldean

You can't go anywhere in Nashville without hearing this song, and it's less of a surprise that someone is walking up to this than the fact nobody did it the past two years.

Humphrey is a transfer from UMass-Lowell, so the song's lyrics about chasing your dreams in the neon lights of Nashville are certainly appropriate.
