Vanderbilt baseball live score updates vs Mississippi State in 2024 SEC Tournament
HOOVER, Ala. — Like the other low seeds, Vanderbilt baseball is surviving and advancing in the SEC tournament.
On Wednesday, the four top seeds all lost their first game for the first time since the tournament expanded to its current format in 2013. That sent those four to the losers bracket, while the remaining teams — No. 5 seed Mississippi State, No. 8 Vanderbilt, No. 10 South Carolina and No. 11 LSU — will be playing for a spot in the semifinals. The Commodores secured a win over rival Tennessee, making it that much sweeter.
Vanderbilt (37-20) will take on Mississippi State (38-19) with the winner getting a spot in Saturday's semifinals. The loser will play again Friday against the winner between Tennessee and Texas A&M.
The Commodores lost a series to the Bulldogs at Hawkins Field this season in a heartbreaker, as Hunter Hines hit a go-ahead two-run home run with two outs in the ninth inning in the rubber match.
