The 2-6 UTEP Miners square off against an 0-7 Sam Houston Bearkats team looking for its first win as an FBS member.
The Bearkats were a perennial national powerhouse in the FCS, winning the national title in the 2020 spring season, but are one of the few teams in America with a worse scoring offense than the Miners.
Sam Houston is favored in this nationally televised game by 3.5 points, as a banged up UTEP team will again go with former fourth-team quarterback Cade McConnell throwing to a receiving corps that at this point is basically two players.
That was a recipe for success two weeks ago against Florida International, not so much last week against New Mexico State.
