USD men coast past Division III Northland College

Nov. 22—VERMILLION — South Dakota men's basketball had its way Wednesday afternoon against Division III Northland College (Wis.), defeating the Lumberjacks 100-48 in front of 1,274 people at the Sanford Coyote Sports Center.

Four Coyotes finished in double digits, with Kaleb Stewart notching a game-high 18 points on 6-of-8 shooting, including four 3-pointers. Paul Bruns was 5-of-13 shooting for 14 points, and Isaac Bruns and Jake Brack each finished with 13 points. USD shot 46.2% from the field, while holding Northland to 32.1% shooting. The Coyotes outscored the Lumberjacks 49-12 in the second half.

Northland was competitive in the first half, trailing just 26-24 following a 3-pointer from Lanston Flowers. However, the Coyotes immediately responded with an 11-2 run, capped off by a Paul Bruns 3-pointer to extend the lead. USD's 15-point halftime lead quickly grew in the second half, as Northland shot just 10.7 percent from the field. The Coyotes went on a 19-0 run from the 15:15 to 9:39 mark to lead by 37 points, then ended the game on a 19-2 run.

Flowers paced the Lumberjacks with 12 points, while Drew Lindberg had nine points.

The Coyotes (4-2) return to action at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, when they host the Air Force Academy in Vermillion.
