USC basketball great DeMar DeRozan passes Larry Bird on all-time NBA scoring list

Compton, California, native and USC Trojan hoops legend DeMar DeRozan passed Boston Celtics icon Larry Bird for 38th on the all-time NBA scoring list with 21,794 points. The feat was achieved earlier this week in the Chicago Bulls’ game against the Dallas Mavericks.

DeRozan is crafting a case for possible enshrinement in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame when his career ends.

DeMar had this to say about passing up Bird:

“I mean, that’s Larry Bird,” DeRozan said. “From a fan perspective, it’s amazing. It’s an honor to say the least.”

DeRozan is a six-time NBA All-Star who has been named to the All-NBA Second Team twice and the All-NBA Third Team once. The 34-year old has also reached the playoffs seven times in his 15-year NBA career.

DeRozan’s consistent mid-range jump shot and his fearlessness in late-game situations have separated him from a lot of other NBA players in his era.
