USC Aiken baseball finishes off series sweep of Claflin

Mar. 3—USC AIKEN 10, CLAFLIN 0 (7 innings)

The USC Aiken baseball team picked up a sweep of Claflin by knocking off the visitors 10-0 on Sunday.

The Pacers improve to 7-10 on the season, including a 3-0 mark in Peach Belt Conference play.

Joseph Mozingo and Brock Myers each had a game-high three hits in the victory. Mozingo smashed a three-run homer and drove in four runs while Myers and Capers Molinaroli had one RBI apiece.

Molinaroli, Dalton Graves and Bradley White II had two hits each. Myers, Graves and Kaden Usry all crossed home twice.

Kevin Cox worked six strong innings, striking out eight in the shutout. Luke Parker worked the final frame, earning two strikeouts.

USCA jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning — with three runs coming off the bat of Mozingo with the three-run round-tripper to left field, which gave the home team a 4-0 edge. Moments later, Doom Dennis crossed home when Myers reached on an error.

The score remained the same until the fourth. With one away, Molinaroli singled but was erased on a fielder's choice. A walk to Usry put two runners on. Mozingo belted a hit to center field to make it 7-0.

White II led off the fifth with a double and promptly came home on a Myers single to right center field.

USCA ended the game early with a run-rule victory by scoring two runs in the seventh. With one down, Myers singled. He ended up moving to third on a pair of wild pitches. A walk to Josh Sharp put two on the base paths. Molinaroli singled in Myers. Graves recorded an infield hit. An errant throw allowed Sharp to score for the game-clinching run.

The Pacers return to action at 6 p.m. Tuesday when they host Emory & Henry.
