UNM's starting backcourt -- Jaelen House and Jamal Mashburn Jr. -- out for game against Pepperdine

Nov. 24—HENDERSON, Nev. — New Mexico will be playing without its starting backcourt against Pepperdine in the Ball Dawgs Classic on Friday.

Neither Jaelen House nor Jamal Mashburn Jr. suited up due to injuries. Both players were named to the preseason all-Mountain West team.

House, who practiced Thursday, has missed the past four games with a hip injury. Coach Richard Pitino said it's likely House returns next week.

Mashburn Jr. is nursing an ankle and quad injury suffered in Wednesday's 90-56 win over Rice in the Ball Dawgs Classic. Mashburn is leading the 4-1 Lobos in scoring at 18.2 points per game. This will be the first game Mashburn has missed as a member of UNM. Mashburn played sparingly after the injury on Wednesday.

The game against Pepperdine tipped off at 4:45 p.m. Mountain Time and the Lobos went with a three-guard starting lineup of sophomore Donovan Dent (who has started in place of House), freshman Tru Washington (making his first career start) and senior Jemarl Baker Jr. (who has been an occasional starter).
