UNC Football helmet stickers for win over South Carolina

The North Carolina Tar Heels opened up the 2023 college football season with a statement. The 31-17 win over South Carolina on Saturday night was headlined by a dominant defensive performance, allowing just three second-half points.

Overall, the Tar Heels controlled the game in the second half despite having to fight off two Gamecocks’ comeback attempts. UNC was able to shut the door on the Gamecocks and secure the win, moving to 1-0 on the year.

For Mack Brown, it was his 100th win at North Carolina and the first this season of what we hope is many more.

It’s only one game but it was a great start for the Tar Heels as they now get set to head home and face off against Appalachian State and Minnesota before opening up Atlantic Coast Conference play.

Before we look too far ahead this season, we need to give out our helmet stickers for the Week 1 win in Charlotte.

The defensive line

Everyone. Literally, every player on the defensive line gets a helmet sticker for this win. That’s how good the line was in this game. As a team, North Carolina finished with 9 sacks and 16.5 tackles for loss, a huge day considering they had just 17 sacks as a team last year.

This was a big statement for the defense which needed to come out and play better right away.  They did just that.

Cedric Gray

North Carolina’s best player on defense from a season ago returned and had a big game in Week 1. He finished with 9 tackles, 1.5 sacks and 1.5 tackles for loss to help the effort.

Gray was all over the field making plays and it looks like he’s picking up right where he left off a year ago.

British Brooks

Welcome back British Brooks! After missing all of the 2022 season with an injury, Brooks returned and was the primary back for the Tar Heels rushing attack.

Brooks finished the game with 103 rushing yards and one score, leading the way on the ground. With the depth that North Carolina has in the backfield, getting Brooks back is a huge boost for them.

Chip Lindsey

It was a good debut for the new North Carolina offensive coordinator as the Tar Heels came out and used tempo early. Lindsey leaned on the run game and put the offense, led by Drake Maye in favorable positions.

This is only one game, but it’s a good start in Chapel Hill.
