UNC Football adds NC State safety through transfer portal

The North Carolina Tar Heels’ football program received some great news on Christmas Day.

The program was able to land a big transfer for their secondary when NC State safety Jakeen Harris pledged his commitment on Monday afternoon, joining the other side of the rivalry. Harris was in the transfer portal after five seasons with NC State and has a year of eligibility after using a red shirt season in 2023.

He did visit North Carolina this month per Inside Carolina and eventually made the decision to commit to the Tar Heels here on Christmas. Harris also drew interest from Virginia Tech and Cincinnati before making his decision.

Harris recorded 166 total tackles, 70 assists, 11 pass deflections, and 4 interceptions while at NC State. He gives UNC a new piece to their secondary which needed a boost after this season.

He becomes the fourth player to join the Tar Heels out of the transfer portal.
