UNC defensive back Tony Grimes leaves game vs FAMU with injury

Tony Grimes left UNC football's opener against FAMU on Saturday with an upper-body injury and he did not return.

The junior defensive back from Virginia Beach was ranked No. 1 in the country as a five-star recruit out of Princess Anne High School.

Grimes started all 13 games as a sophomore last season, garnering All-ACC Honorable Mention with 47 tackles and nine pass breakups.

He came out of Saturday's game in Chapel Hill after taking a hard hit on a tackle in the first quarter.

Grimes walked off the field on his own power and then went to the medical tent.

ACC Network reporter Kelsey Riggs said UNC officials confirmed Grimes would miss the remainder of the game.

Dante Balfour, a redshirt freshman from Florida, took Grimes' place in the lineup.
