UNC Basketball commit ‘expected’ to sign during early period

The early signing period in college athletics is set to begin on Wednesday as recruits can sign a national letter of intent to programs. For the North Carolina Tar Heels basketball program, they are looking to sign their three-man recruiting class for 2024 with Ian Jackson, Drake Powell, and James Brown committed.

And it sounds like they should get that done.

After taking an official visit this weekend to North Carolina, the five-star Jackson is ‘expected’ to sign his NLI this week per a report from Adam Zagoria of Zag’s Blog.  Zagoria talked to Jackson’s AAU coach who revealed that the recruit is expected to sign.

Now why is this important? Well, there have been a LOT of rumors circulating the internet about St. John’s and Rick Pitino trying to flip a commitment from Jackson. While it’s been shot down by Jackson himself, other big accounts and analysts have continued to hint at it.

Nothing is official until Jackson is on campus next Summer as we saw Simeon Wilcher back out of his letter right when he was expected to be on campus. But this is a GREAT first step in securing the commitment still and shutting a lot of those rumors down even more.
