UFL football rosters: Who are the QBs for every team in 2024?

The United Football League is set to begin its inaugural season on March 30.

The result of the USFL-XFL merger, the UFL returns four teams from each league. The USFL Conference consists of the Birmingham Stallions, Houston Roughnecks, Memphis Showboats and Michigan Panthers, while the XFL Conference contains the Arlington Renegades, D.C. Defenders, San Antonio Brahmas and St. Louis Battlehawks.

All eight teams have cut their rosters to 50 players before the season begins. Here's a look at the quarterbacks for every UFL team in 2024:

Arlington Renegades 2024 quarterbacks

The Renegades return Luis Perez from their 2023 XFL championship squad. Perez was a star for Division-II Texas A&M-Commerce and has become somewhat of a spring football legend in recent years. He has started in the Alliance of American Football (2019), the old XFL (2020), the USFL (2022) and the XFL.

Perez will be backed up by two former college stars. Lindsey Scott Jr. set the FCS single-season record for touchdown passes when he tossed 60 for Incarnate Word in 2022, while Holton Ahlers is the career leader in passing yards and passing touchdowns in East Carolina Pirates history.

Birmingham Stallions 2024 quarterbacks

The Stallions will not return 2023 USFL MVP Alex McGough, as he is currently with the Green Bay Packers practice squad. However, the Stallions will return J'Mar Smith, who led the team to the 2022 championship and entered 2023 as the starter before going on IR. Smith started for three seasons at Louisiana Tech under Stallions coach Skip Holtz.

Smith seems to have competition for the starting job. Former Nebraska and Kansas State starter Adrian Martinez signed with the team on Dec. 24, and former Ole Miss starter Matt Corral joined the team on Feb. 13. Corral was a third-round draft pick by the Carolina Panthers in 2022 and spent a brief stint with the New England Patriots in 2023.

D.C. Defenders 2024 quarterbacks

Jordan Ta'amu returns as the starter for the Defenders. Ta'amu started all 10 games for the Defenders in the 2023 XFL season, leading the team to a league-best 9-1 record and winning the XFL Offensive Player of the Year award. He was the starting quarterback for Ole Miss in 2017 and 2018.

Ta'amu's expected backups are Deondre Francois and Jalan McClendon. Francois started for Florida State and Hampton University in college and was selected by the Defenders in the 2024 UFL dispersal draft. McClendon was a backup at NC State from 2014-2017 and Baylor in 2018.

Houston Roughnecks 2024 quarterbacks

The Roughnecks were an XFL franchise in 2023, but that franchise folded in the merger. The USFL team formerly known as the Houston Gamblers adopted the Roughnecks name and branding, but none of the team's quarterbacks heading into 2024 played for either Houston team in 2023.

Reid Sinnett, the expected starter, is a former backup for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Miami Dolphins and Philadelphia Eagles but never appeared in an NFL game. Jarrett Guarantano started four seasons for the Tennessee Volunteers, and Nolan Henderson starred for Delaware in the FCS in 2022.

Memphis Showboats 2024 quarterbacks

Case Cookus started for the USFL's Philadelphia Stars in 2022 and 2023, leading them to the 2022 championship game. He is expected to start for Memphis while Josh Love is the anticipated backup. Love has started for the USFL's Pittsburgh Maulers and Michigan Panthers and signed with the Showboats on March 13 after the team released 2023 starter Cole Kelley.

Michigan Panthers 2024 quarterbacks

Josh Love and Carson Strong received most of Michigan's quarterback reps in 2023, but neither will return in 2024. The Panthers brought in former Michigan State starter Brian Lewerke and former LSU starter Danny Etling, who was a seventh-round draft pick by the Patriots in 2019.

Lewerke and Etling are expected to compete with E.J. Perry, the Panthers' backup in 2023, for the starting job.

San Antonio Brahmas 2024 quarterbacks

Quentin Dormady was the first overall selection by the Brahmas in the second part of the UFL dispersal draft and was named the starter following the release of Jack Coan. Dormady started for Tennessee and Central Michigan in college.

Dormady's expected backups are Chase Garbers, who spent a season as a backup with the Las Vegas Raiders, and Tom Flacco, the younger brother of 2023 NFL Comeback Player of the Year Joe Flacco.

Update: Chase Garbers named Brahmas starter

On Monday, March 25, the Brahmas announced that Garbers will be their starting quarterback for week one. Dormady and Flacco will serve as the backups.

St. Louis Battlehawks 2024 quarterbacks

A.J. McCarron returns as the Battlehawks starter after leading the XFL in passing touchdowns in 2023. A two-time national champion at Alabama, McCarron spent time as an NFL backup with the Cincinnati Bengals, Buffalo Bills, then-Oakland Raiders, Houston Texans and Atlanta Falcons. McCarron has the most NFL experience among all quarterbacks in the UFL and briefly returned to the Bengals in the 2023 season.
