UF oyster scientist and brother to new Patriot makes TV appearance during 2024 NFL Draft

Despite not being a football player, a University of Florida oyster scientist made an on-screen appearance during the 2024 NFL Draft to explain what he does.

Charles Wallace, a doctoral candidate in UF’s Forest Resources and Conservation program and graduate of UF’s Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences master’s program, is the brother of Patriot’s third-round pick Caedan Wallace, a 6'5", 314-pound offensive right tackle from Pennsylvania State University. His shining moment came on April 26 when Patriots General Manager Eliot Wolf told reporters Caedan came from a great family, and even had a brother who was an “oyster scientist.”

Shortly after a reporter asked Caeden about his brother, a question he left Wallace to answer himself, pulling him on camera to explain his job.

“I’m Charles Wallace, finishing up my Ph.D. at the University of Florida,” he said. “I do oyster science, oyster management stuff. I study how people interact with the environment, specifically with oysters and oyster management. So, pretty cool stuff.”

On his LinkedIn page, Wallace wrote that he is interested in educating vulnerable communities facing threats of climate change.

Wallace posted a clip of his appearance on LinkedIn, giving his brother a shoutout.

“I couldn't be more excited for him to join such a great organization,” he wrote. “Plus, as a seafood lover, I am looking forward to trying all the amazing oysters and seafood that New England has to offer. Can't wait to see what adventures await in this new chapter.”
