Tyler Tate hired as new Gibson County basketball coach, replacing Justin Lowery

Tyler Tate is the new Gibson County boys basketball coach.

Tate was announced as the Pioneers' coach Wednesday in a social media post from the school. He replaces Justin Lowery, who was hired as the McKenzie boys basketball coach in April.

After a total of nine seasons across three stints as an assistant coach at Bethel University, Tate was hired as the Bradford girls basketball coach in April. He also coached Gibson County Middle School basketball teams for eight seasons.

The Pioneers went 12-15 in 2023-24 and ended the season with an opening-round loss to Milan in the district tournament.

In 12 seasons under Lowery, the Pioneers went 157-186 and made appearances in sectional games in 2022 and 2023, the first in 30 years for the program.

Tate graduated from Bethel with a bachelor's degree in physical education and a master's degree in education. He is a Rutherford native and attended Bradford. Tate and his wife, Lauren, have three children, Ty, Dax and Noa.
