Two Topeka teams undefeated in high school football, and one team pulls away in War on 24
The big story during Week 5 of high school football was the War on 24 with the Rossville Bulldawgs hosting the Silver Lake Eagles.
Silver Lake beat Rock Creek at home last Friday in a close 38-35 win, securing a 3-1 record before facing off against Rossville this week. Rossville was coming off a 70-0 win against Atchison County last week, with a 2-2 record goinginto Week 5.
The Bulldawgs were looking to upset Silver Lake’s winning streak after losing 22-21 in an overtime victory to the Eagles in 2022.
Rossville pulled ahead early in the first quarter before Silver Lake took over in the second quarter and never looked back. The Eagles scored three straight touchdowns going into the half with a score of 20-14.
Rossville drove 99 yards for the touchdown with 5:27 left in the fourth quarter. Silver Lake had 34 to Rossville’s 28 before the Eagles responded with one of their own near the three-minute mark, and added two with a successful two-point conversion, resulting in a final score of 42-28.
