Two Mississippi State football freshman receivers arrested on marijuana possession charges

STARKVILLE — Mississippi State football freshman receivers JJ Harrell and Mario Craver were arrested Monday on charges of possession of marijuana in a vehicle and possession of beer by a minor, according to a booking log from the Oktibbeha County Sheriff's Office.

Both have been enrolled at MSU since January and took part in the spring season.

"We’re aware of the matter and are continuing to gather information," coach Jeff Lebby said in a statement. "We have no further comment at this time.”

After news surfaced of their arrests, Harrell posted an image of a Facebook post onto X, formerly known as Twitter.

"Sometimes things go wrong to get your right," the post read. "Trust God in the process."

Harrell and Craver were four-star prospects in the 2024 recruiting class, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. Craver was the top prospect in the class after committing in December shortly after Lebby was hired to replace Zach Arnett.

Harrell committed to Mississippi State in June and stayed true to it throughout MSU's coaching change. When he was signed in December, Lebby praised him as a leader of the class.

Craver is a product of Clay-Chalkville High School in Birmingham, Alabama. Harrell is from Sardis, Mississippi, and attended North Panola High School.
