Twitter debates whether Jimbo Fisher can lead Texas A&M to the College Football Playoff
You and I believe that Jimbo Fisher can lead Texas A&M to the mountaintop in the near future, but is that feeling mutual with your fellow social media counterpart?
Michael Bratton, host of “That SEC Podcast,” took to the Twitter timeline on Tuesday to jump in on the latest trend of sparking conversation about Aggies head coach Jimbo Fisher. Much like Josh Pate’s Tweet from last week, the social media landscape was ablaze with commentary about the future of the Maroon and White under their leader.
To be fair, the Aggies entering a pivotal season in 2023 is the worst-kept secret in the SEC, perhaps in all of college football for that matter. In spite of holding a 39-21 record in his five seasons at College Station, alongside a perfect 3-0 record in bowl games, Fisher’s latest track record has strayed far away from the path of consistency.
After putting together the best recruiting class in history during the 2022 cycle, Texas A&M went just 5-7 last season and saw a handful of high-profile prospects depart via the transfer portal.
In the aftermath, Bratton is just one of many that wonder whether a turnaround and most specifically a College Football Playoff appearance, is a reality in the Aggies’ future with Jimbo Fisher:
Do you believe Jimbo Fisher will manage to turn things around at Texas A&M and lead the Aggies to the College Football Playoff during his tenure? pic.twitter.com/Yp9qf1FaWA

Well, when you throw a heavily loaded question like that into the Twittersphere, you’re bound to get some animated responses. So while Texas A&M boasts a bevy of talent, especially on defense, to make themselves a darkhorse contender, does social media feel the same way?
Check out some of the notable responses below, with a clear consensus that while the path, and talent, are there for the Maroon and White, it’s about backing up that potential with wins on the field.
You sure about that?!
Nope. pic.twitter.com/7ilrePj9Wp

Just answer the question!

Handing the offense over to Petrino will have a huge impact no doubt
Really depends on how far Petrino can carry him.

It may be College Football Playoff or bust for Jimbo in 2024
With the expansion to 12 teams it is possible but it’s more likely he does not.

Will a bounce back season, but no CFP appearance, secure Jimbo's future?
They will be good but no playoff run imo

The consensus theme here? Let Bobby cook when it comes to playcalling
No, but Bobby P could if he leaves him alone on offense

As many of us do as well
I hope so

I don't know what's more insulting: the 5-7 prediction or being compared to the Longhorns?
I think that in 2024 when playoff is at 12 teams, Jimbo and Aggies should (barring massive, Buff-esque transfer turnover) the roster and opportunity to make that 12-team tourney.
However, at 4-team playoff, no.
And, in 2023 – I say with confidence: 5-7 record just like UT.— @CollegeFootballHullabalooForY'all (@Hullabaloo_WPN) June 21, 2023
Reaching the CFP will shut the mouths of plenty Aggies cynics since they joined the SEC
No but over there time in the SEC with 2 different coaches the record is virtually the same. Maybe we start to accept that A&M is not much better than middle of the pack?

Don't forget that this is just year two for that '22 class. Those prospects will only get better here on out
Jimbo has been at the helm for five years. That 2022 team was 100% his players, coached and developed by him, and the Aggies just had their worst season since 2008.
If he was the guy, you'd expect A&M to be getting better YoY, but that's not happening.
Color me skeptical.

I'm manifesting the same type of positive energy here
This schedule easily has us set up as an 8-4 to 10-2 record this as a warmup for next year schedule. On issues from last year are solved on paper, our depth and experience is hardly matched in the nation and we have a proven OC for once and Weigman is our QB of the future.

The talent that is locked in with the right mindset stuck around, and that's all that matters
I’d love to see it but I really don’t know. Sure he put together the #1 recruiting class last year, but half of them have already left it seems. Have to keep talent around…

Again: it's playoff appearance or bust for a loaded Aggies roster in 2024
Have you seen their 2o24 schedule- most of his 5 stars will be juniors. Yep most definitely
— Charles Berryhill (@CharlesBerryh12) June 20, 2023
A very objective take, and that 2024 schedule has a playoff appearance written all over it
I think he does just enough to hold onto the job in '23, makes the expanded playoff in '24
