Twisters set new records in the pool

Jan. 17—OLDENBURG — Oldenburg Academy's boys 200 Medley Relay Team and 400 Freestyle Relay Team not only placed first, but set a new school record times of 1:52.17 in the 200 Medley and 3:48.04 in the 400 Freestyle Relay.

During the Madison Invitational Jan. 6, Nash King (backstroke), Santiago Schutte (breaststroke), Sully Hill (butterfly) and Noah Schenk (freestyle) surpassed the previous school record of 1:53.51 set Nov. 22, 2010 by B. Perkins, Z. Gorman, Q. Shenk and J. Sanders. The record setters went 25.63, 29.56, 30.44 and 26.54 respectively.

"All the boys contributed to a drop in time from their previous swim at Richmond earlier this year where they finished in 1:56.71 (26.43, 30.24, 31.98 and 28.06 respectively)," OA swim coach Jerry Fry said.

Just a week later at the South Dearborn Invitational, the boys 400 freestyle relay team clocked in at 3:48.04, besting the old record of 3:56.68 from Feb. 18, 2010. Relay swimmers Noah Schenk, Schutte, Albert Hudepohl and King all had fast split times to achieve the record.

"All their hard work is paying off. We're very proud of every swimmer's determination to individually improve and work together to win as a team," Coach Fry added.
