TSSAA Spring Fling top moments: Hardin Valley soccer makes semifinals, Alcoa's Jordan Harris dominates

MURFREESBORO — Here are some of the biggest moments from Knoxville area athletes on the first day of competition Tuesday at the TSSAA Spring Fling state championships:

Alcoa senior Jordan Harris wins 100-meter and long jump

Jordan Harris, an Alcoa football standout, dominated on the first day of the TSSAA track and field state championship. Harris won the Class A 100-meter in a time of 10.84 seconds. He took first in the long jump with 22 feet, 6 inches, becoming a three-time champion in the event. Harris, a Tennessee Tech signee, earned second place in the triple jump with a 44-1, which is a personal record.

Harris, a three-star running back, is a multi-time state champion in track and has four championships in football and one in basketball.

Union County baseball dominates in first state tournament game 

The Patriots are off to an impressive start in their first appearance in Murfreesboro. Union County defeated Adamsville 13-3 in Class 2A, winning in six innings.

Union County (29-9) was led by Eben Hansen, who went 2-for-3 with four RBIs. Ian Setzer also went 2-for-3 and had three RBIs. It trailed 2-0 in the first two innings and then got hot with four runs in the third inning, five runs in the fourth and three runs in the fifth.

Union County’s Kaden Stinnett struck out five and allowed one hit in 3⅔ innings. The Patriots will play against White House Heritage at 12:30 p.m. CT Wednesday.

Farragut baseball completes comeback victory

The Admirals trailed 4-0 after three innings to Independence but found its resolve to win 7-4. Farragut (33-8) showed championship composure in the victory. It was led by Brennon Seigler, who went 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Landis Davila and Jake Merrick each had a home run.

Farragut will play Clarksville at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Hardin Valley Academy soccer reaches state semifinals 

The Hawks are on a mission to win their first state championship since 2011 after not making the state tournament since 2015. They defeated Colliersville 3-2 in the first round of the Class AAA tournament.

Hardin Valley Academy (13-4-6) led 2-0 after the first 40 minutes. Ishmael Palacios-Torres scored the first goal in the 21st minute with an assist from Ben Brophy. At the 29th minute, Nathan Holbrook scored the second goal.

Colliersville (15-4-2) staged a second-half comeback, scoring the next two goals. The Hawks scored again in the 75th minute on a goal from Duwayne Powers with an assist from Brady Hammer.

HVA will play in the semifinals against Station Camp at 4 p.m. Wednesday.

South-Doyle girls track and field succeeds in relay race

South-Doyle girls track and field won the Class AA 4x100 relay. The team of Lariah Cozart, Aubrey Hubbs, Amani Martin and Ka'Shauna Dyer finished with a time of 49.83.

South-Doyle won the event for the second straight year in a row.

Knoxville Halls soccer starts strong in state tournament debut

In the Red Devils' first appearance in the Class AA state tournament, they advanced to the semifinals. Halls defeated Crockett County 2-0, scoring both goals in the second half.

Diego Sabino scored in the 46th minute with an assist by Jacob Eubanks. Eubanks scored in the 57th minute and the assist was by Chase Burnett.

Eubanks picked up his 34th goal and 14th assist against Crockett County (16-6-1). Halls (19-3) will play Valor College Prep at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.
