Trio of three-time champions crowned during Section V's softball title games

A trio of three-time champions were crowned during Section V's softball championship Saturday.

Next, can Wellsville, Bolivar-Richburg and Friendship/Scio build on their three-peats with state final four appearances?

The same goes for Batavia, Addison and Batavia Notre Dame. Each team saw strong performances lift them to banner seasons.

What it means

Batavia beat Waterloo 7-2 in Class B1 while Wellsville erased a deficit to defeat Haverling 3-2.

Addison defeated Letchworth 4-2 for the C1 title. Bolivar-Richburg shutout Dundee/Bradford 5-0.

Batavia Notre Dame edged Lyndonville 5-2 in the D1 final. Friendship/Scio three-peated after a 13-0 win over Finney.

Top players

Class B1

Batavia pitcher Giana Mruczek threw a three-hitter with seven strikeouts. She also went 1-3 with an RBI at the plate. Libby Grazioplene went 4-4 in the win.

Class C2

In Addison's victory, Courtney Wilson went 2-3 with an RBI-double. Bregan Jones had two hits and a double.

Class D1

Loretta Sorochty was named tournament MVP. She struck out 11 batters while scattering five hits to give Batavia Notre Dame the crown. Sorochty added a single, double, RBI and scored a run at the plate.

What's next

Saturday's champions will play crossover Section V finals Tuesday night to determine a region qualifier.

Honeoye Falls-Lima will host Batavia vs. Wellsville in the B final at 5 p.m., then Addison vs. Bolivar-Richburg in the C final at 7 p.m. Fillmore plays host to Friendship/Scio vs. Batavia Notre Dame in the D final at 5 p.m.
