Trevor Linden stepping down as Vancouver Canucks president
Trevor Linden is leaving his role as president of hockey operations with the Vancouver Canucks.
The team put out a press release Wednesday evening announcing the surprising shift in the organization’s upper management, noting that Linden is departing from the team “to pursue different endeavors.”
In his role as president over the past four seasons, Linden was responsible for overseeing all aspects of hockey operations including scouting, development, coaching, and minor-league affiliations. He was also serving as an NHL alternate governor.

“There aren’t many individuals in sport more connected to a team and a community than Trevor is in Vancouver. The Canucks are entering an exciting new era thanks in large part to Trevor’s leadership and hard work. I thank Trevor for all of his accomplishments and I am confident that Jim Benning and his staff will continue that momentum in the months ahead,” said Managing Partner, Francesco Aquilini.
Linden also released a statement of his own on Wednesday evening, thanking the fans and city and exuding confidence in the team’s direction:
This team and this game hold a special place in my life and I leave very optimistic about the direction the Canucks are headed.
I love this city and this province, and I will always have a special relationship with this team and Canucks fans. I am going to step back from the spotlight for a while and enjoy the summer with my young family.

Aside from the time he spent as team president, Linden is also one of the top two or three players in Canucks history, posting 375 goals and 867 points in 1382 regular season games with the Canucks, Montreal Canadiens, New York Islanders and Washington Capitals, while adding 99 points in 124 playoff contests.
