Trevor Lawrence out again Thursday, making Week 16 a long shot

The Jacksonville Jaguars’ Thursday injury report mirrored the team’s report from Wednesday.

For the second day in row, quarterback Trevor Lawrence and wide receiver Zay Jones did not practice with a Week 16 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers just days away.

While both head coach Doug Pederson and backup quarterback C.J. Beathard said Lawrence is making positive progress, another day of Lawrence out of action doesn’t bode well for his chances at playing Sunday as players have to gradually work their way back into the mix, according to the NFL’s return-to-participation protocol.

For example, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy’s quick entry and exit from concussion protocol in October still saw him miss Wednesday practice, participate on a limited basis Thursday, and then fully practice Friday before the 49ers announced Saturday that he was cleared to start.

If Lawrence misses Sunday, it’ll be the first time in his NFL career that he’s been ruled out.

For the Buccaneers, the only updates Thursday was full participation from defensive lineman Vita Vea after he was limited Wednesday with a toe injury, and a rest day for wide receiver Chris Godwin.
