Travis Kelce injury updates: Latest on TE's status before Chiefs' game vs. Broncos

Travis Kelce only had a brief absence from the Kansas City Chiefs' win over the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday after sustaining an ankle injury. But with a short turnaround before his next game, the tight end finds his status up in the air.

Kelce figures to be one of the biggest X-factors for the Chiefs' "Thursday Night Football" matchup against the Denver Broncos. Kansas City carries a 15-game win streak against its AFC West rival, and the four-time All-Pro leads the Chiefs in both receptions (27) and receiving yards (222).

Kelce sustained the injury when he slipped on a catch in the second quarter. He limped off and exited the game, but he returned in the third quarter after having his ankle taped. His 4-yard touchdown catch proved to be the difference in the 27-20 victory.

Here's the latest on Kelce's status heading into the game:

NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported Thursday that, barring a setback, the Chiefs expect Kelce to play against the Broncos.

Kelce is officially listed as questionable on the injury report and was a limited participant this week, but Chiefs coach Andy Reid expressed optimism about his status.

"He’s got quite a little bit of treatment on it and he’s feeling better, which is good," Reid said Wednesday. "I’m just going to see, see how he moves around, see how he feels. He’s always been honest with me on things like that, and just see how he does."

Kelce was not on the Chiefs' inactive list released prior to Thursday night's game, which indicates he will suit up and play against the Broncos.

In addition to Kelce, defensive end George Karlaftis (hamstring) and punter Tommy Townsend (knee) are also listed as questionable.

On the Broncos' side, pass rusher Frank Clark (illness), linebacker Baron Browning (knee) and defensive tackle D.J. Jones (knee) have all been ruled out, while tight end Greg Dulcich (hamstring) is questionable.
