Transfer Roundup, Jan. 25: Manchester City, West Ham nearing club-record signings

Here’s the transfer roundup for Thursday, Jan. 25:
THURSDAY’S DONE DEALS
Guido Carrillo | Monaco —> Southampton — The Saints have sealed the deal. The 26-year-old Argentinean striker heads to England’s south coast for a reported fee of $27.2 million, and should become Southampton’s week-in, week-out No. 9.
Gabriel Barbosa | Inter Milan —> Santos — Once viewed as a prospect on par with Gabriel Jesus, Gabigol‘s move to Europe hasn’t gone as planned. He arrived at Inter from Santos in 2016 after featuring for Brazil at the Rio Olympics. But he never quite got proper opportunities with Inter, and didn’t do much with the ones he did get. He had gone on loan to Benfica, but Inter recalled him from the loan to send him back to Santos on another year-long loan. He’s still only 21, and has plenty of time to get back on track.
Neven Subotic | Borussia Dortmund —> Saint-Etienne — Subotic helped anchor some of Jurgen Klopp’s best teams at Borussia Dortmund. But he’s never been the same after a serious knee injury. He had fallen down the depth chart, and now moves to the middle of Ligue 1 after Dortmund agreed to terminate his contract.
Ballou Jean-Yves Tabla | Montreal Impact —> Barcelona — The 18-year-old Ivorian-Canadian attacker will link up with Barca B.
Axel Tuanzebe | Manchester United —> Aston Villa — The versatile 20-year-old defender joins on loan until the end of the season to bolster Villa’s promotion push.
REPORTS
Aymeric Laporte | Athletic Bilbao —> Manchester City — As outlined yesterday, City’s move for the 23-year-old French center back appears to be on, and should be wrapped up by early next week. But nothing is official yet.
Javier Pastore | PSG —> Inter Milan — Tuttosport claims the Argentine playmaker is on his way back to Italy after more than six years in Paris. He’s become part of PSG’s overflowing surplus since the Neymar-Mbappe spending spree, and the French giants need to sell to meet Financial Fair Play requirements. Pastore was always one of the logical casualties.
Joao Mario | Inter Milan —> David Moyes has confirmed that the Portuguese midfielder in London for a medical. He could be a West Ham player by the end of the day, or by the end of the week. It’s reportedly a loan with an option to buy for $37 million in the summer.
The 25-year-old has always been a tidy player, but never a gamebreaker. Perhaps a featured role under Moyes, as the midfield focal point, will be what he needs to take the next step. Or it could be the beginning of his downfall into the depths of Premier League mid-table oblivion.
Baba Rahman | Chelsea —> Schalke — Schalke is reportedly close to wrapping up another loan move for the left back. Manager Domenico Tedesco effectively said that Baba Rahman had agreed to return to the German club, and sporting director Christian Heidel said the deal was “on the home stretch,” and that the 23-year-old Ghanaian was due for a medical soon.
CHATTER
De Gea to Real Madrid a possibility once again? — With Real’s move for Kepa Arrizabalaga falling through, David De Gea has reportedly come back into the picture. And now Cadena Ser is reporting that De Gea’s camp has been informed that Madrid will make a summer move. He’d surely cost nine figures, but there’s a good chance Madrid would be willing to pay nine figures.
Stefan de Vrij poised to sign new Lazio deal — The Dutch defender’s contract was set to expire in the summer, making him a potential bargain-bin target for some of Europe’s top clubs. But Lazio sporting director Igli Tare has confirmed that negotiations on an extension are in their final stages.
RUMORS
Abdou Diallo | Mainz —> Arsenal — Mainz sporting director Rouven Schroder has said the 21-year-old defender is “not for sale,” but Arsenal is interested, according to the Mirror. Perhaps this is one to watch for the summer, then.
Keita Balde Diao | Monaco —> Napoli — The Senegalese winger just signed for Monaco from Lazio this past summer. Napoli, per Gazzetta dello Sport, wants to bring him back to Italy, and had a $56.4 million bid turned down by the reigning French champions.
William Carvalho | Sporting CP —> Inter Milan — Carvalho has been linked with moves away from Portugal for a while now. The latest rumor, from Gazzetta dello Sport, says Inter is interested.
Lucas Moura | PSG —> Betis — According to French outlet Le10 Sport, we can add Betis to the list of potential destinations for the Brazilian.
Nacho Monreal | Arsenal —> Athletic Bilbao — One of a few potential Laporte replacements, per Mundo Deportivo.
Pietro Pellegri | Genoa —> Juventus — He’s 16 years old, and according to Gianluca Di Marzio, Juve is willing to pay more than $25 million for him. Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Genoa wants $37.6 million for the young striker.
Islam Slimani | Leicester City —> Monaco — A potential Guido Carrillo replacement, according to L’Equipe. Carrillo is off to Southampton.
Roque Mesa | Swansea —> Sevilla — Per Estadio Deportivo, Swansea could already be looking to give up on its $17.2 million summer signing, and Sevilla is interested.
Taylor Booth | Real Salt Lake —> Bayern Munich — German outlet Kicker says the 16-year-old American could finalize an agreement with Bayern in the coming weeks. The Washington Post’s Steven Goff had previously reported that Munich was the young midfielder’s likely destination.
