Track: Quincy girls run away with title at Constantine, Bronson finishes second

CONSTANTINE — The Quincy Orioles and Bronson Vikings traveled to Sweetland Stadium in Constantine this past Friday to compete in the Constantine Track and Field Invitational.

Quincy and Bronson dominated the girls' portion of the tournament, taking first and second place, while both boys' teams struggled in a stacked tournament, with Quincy taking fifth and Bronson taking sixth.

The Quincy girls brought home the title of the Constantine Invitational, winning with a score of 181 points while Bronson finished with runner-up honors, taking second place with a score of 99 points.

Quincy’s championship effort was paced by sophomore Brookelyn Parker who brought home a trifecta of first place finishes, taking first place in the 200-meter dash in a time of 28.80 seconds; first place in the 100 hurdles in a time of 16.61 seconds; and first place in the 300 hurdles in a time of 48.09 seconds.

Quincy had three other gold medal efforts, as Raylee Fulton won the 3,200-meter run in a time of 13 minutes, 28.39 seconds; Brooke McVicker won the pole vault with a vault of 8 feet, 0 inches; and the 3,200-relay team of Fulton, Kendyl Musielewicz, Katharina Paschke, and Sadie Miller won in a time of 11:10.19.

Also earning a medal with a top six finish for Quincy was Kali Kugler, fourth in the 100 and sixth in the long jump; Avery Massey, sixth in the 200; Elizabeth Craig, third in the 400; Musielewicz, second in the 800; Paschke, third in the 800 and third in the 1,600; Miller, fifth in the 800 and fourth in the 1,600; Peyton Proctor, fifth in the 1,600; Charlotte Crabbs, second place in the 3,200; Libby Butchart, fourth in the 3,200; Tegan Payne, sixth place in the 100 hurdles; the 400 relay team of McVicker, Abby Tinervia, Cheyenne Marske, and Kugler, third place; the 800 relay team of Tinervia, Craig, Marske, and Kugler, second place; the 1,600 relay team of Musielewicz, Parker, Fulton, and Craig, second place; Olivia Davenport, fifth in the shot put and second in the discus; Kyha Brewer, sixth in the shot put; Abigail Miller, second in the high jump; Tinervia, fourth in the high jump and fourth in the long jump; Abby Leosh, second in the pole vault; Piper Craig, fourth in the pole vault; and Marske, third in the long jump.

Bronson’s runner-up effort was paced by five gold medals, including two multi-event winners. Taking a pair of gold medals was Jaiden Hayes with a first place in the 100 in a time of 13.78 and first place in the long jump with a jump of 14 feet, 5 inches. Hayes also took third place in the 300 hurdles.

Also taking home multiple gold was senior Skylar Smith who won the high jump with a jump of 4 feet, 10 inches and the discus with a throw of 88 feet, 10 inches.

The 400-relay team of Itzel Albarran, Addison Calloway, Miriam Sanchez, and Hayes also claimed gold, winning in a time of 55.19 seconds.

Rounding out the Bronson effort with a top six finish was Albarran, second in the 100, second in the 400 and second in the long jump; Calloway, sixth place in the 100, third place in the 200 and third place in the pole vault; Sanchez, fourth place in the 400; and Zoay Herbert, fifth place in the discus.

The Quincy boys brought home 13 medals, including one gold as Corey Turner continued his dominance of the pole vault pit with a win after a vault of 13 feet, 6 inches.

Also helping out the Orioles effort with a top six finish was Cameron Barry, fourth place in the 100; Chayse Jensen, sixth place in the 1,600; Clayton Benson, second place in the 100 hurdles; the 400 relay team of Turner, Benson, Kaleb Handy, and Barry, third place; the 800 relay team of Barry, Micah Groves, Noah Pearson, and Noah Rufenacht, fourth place; the 1,600 relay team of Benson, Groves, Rufenacht, and Pearson, fifth place; the 3,200 relay team of Eddie Miller, Nathan Richer, Coy Wood, and Max Stetler, sixth place; Lincoln Sims, fifth place in the shot put; Hayden Peters, fifth place in the discus; Rufenacht, second place in the high jump; Alex Dunn, third place in the high jump; and Handy, fourth place in the pole vault.

Bronson had one gold medal winner as junior Boston Bucklin won the 800 in a time of 2:10.16 while also taking fourth place in the high jump.

Rounding out the Viking effort with a top six finish was Tyler Wilber, second in the 800; Jack Ganton, fourth place in the 3,200; Stevie Wilson, fifth place in the 110 hurdles and fourth place in the 300 hurdles; the 1,600 relay team of Kam Bracket, Bucklin, Wilber, and Dallas Wilson, fourth place; the 3,200 relay team of Wilber, Jovani Ramos, Bracket, and Bucklin, second place; Jace Hoard, sixth place in the shot put; Lance Salek, sixth place in the discus; and Bracket, fifth place in the high jump and fifth place in the long jump.
