Track: MVL sprinters impress at Maysville invite

NEWTON TOWNSHIP — It was a productive Friday for area track teams during at the annual Jerry Neal Invitational at the Maysville Athletic Complex.

Muskingum Valley League sprinters particularly impressed in the eight-team event, as West Muskingum junior Rashid Sesay raced to a :10.99 to edge Morgan's Kyle Campbell (:11.07) in the 100, which followed his win in the 200 (:23.24) just ahead of Maysville's Sammy Scott (:23.61). Sesay also anchored the winning 4x100 relay that finished in :45.87.

Ty Shawger was the runner-up in the discus (128-9), third in the high jump (5-10) and ran on the 4x100 relay for the Tornadoes, who placed in the top four in nine events. Jacob Agin was third in the 1600 (5:05.9) and Connor McKenzie fourth in the shot (42-3) for West, which also saw its 4x200 relay place third (1:36.6) and its 4x400 take fourth (3:50.9).

Kody Clendenning took the 1600 (4:57.8), Ethan Zell the 3200 (10:49.9) and Cash Smith the 110 hurdles (:15.70) and 300 hurdles (:41.54) for John Glenn; the Muskies also won the 4x400 (3:38.9) and 4x800 (8:53.0), took second in the 4x200 (1:36.1) and were third in the 4x100 (:46.93).

Clendenning added a second in the 800 (2:09.3), Alex Smith a second in the pole vault, Jake Morris a second in the shot, Cameron House a third in the 400 (:54.21) and Cameron Barnhouse a third in the 110 hurdles (:17.23). Isaac Duran was fourth in the pole vault (9-6), Tanner Caudill a fourth in the 800 (2:17.0) and Ian Davis a fourth in the 3200 (11:37.6).

Aidan Mahon took the high jump (6-3) and long jump (20-2) for Philo, which also saw Ryan Morris place second in the 3200 (11:17.3), Shaun Boyd place third in the 100 (:11.60), Corgan Goldean third in the 800 (2:14.2). Zack Savage was fourth in the 100 (:11.64).

Vincent Pratt added runner-up finishes in the 110 hurdles (:16.94) and 300 hurdles (:42.07) for Maysville, which took third in the 4x400 (3:47.2) and 4x800 (9:24.4) and fourth in the 4x200 (1:39.2). Casen Hirtle was third in the long jump (19-8) and Aydan Hernandez third in the pole vault (9-6).

Brody Zemba won the 400 (:53.51) and took third in the 200 (:23.80) and Stephen Sagan was fourth in the long jump for Rosecrans (19-2 1/2).

Ashton Childress was third in the discus (124-2) and Andrew Rollins third in the shot (42-11 1/2) for Crooksville.

Morgan's 4x100 relay team was second (:46.10) and Hayden Bankes was fourth in the 300 hurdles (:43.61); the 4x800 relay was fourth in 9:48.0.

Trevor Cook won the shot (49-7 1/2) and discus (140-11), Matthew Fehrman the 800 (2:02.3) and Cooper Hornfeck the pole vault (12-6) to pace Licking Valley, the only team from outside the area to participate.

Licking Valley won the team title with 157 points with John Glenn in second at 149, Philo third (84), Maysville fourth (80), West M fifth (74), Morgan sixth (51), Rosecrans seventh (36) and Crooksville eighth (21).

GIRLS

West Muskingum's Rebecca Strunk broke the school record in the shot with a throw of 41-5 1/2 on her final throw of the meet, eclipsing the old record of 41-4 1/2 set by Cindy Eide in 1979.

Strunk and teammate Mykell Bowen, who took the discus (121-6), helped the Tornadoes sweep the throwing events. Lucy Thorne was third in the 800 (2:42.1).

Morgan standout Odessa Smith continued her reign of terror in the hurdles, claiming the 100s in :15.17 and 300s in :46.80. She then was second in the long jump (16-8).

Maddie Short added a win in the high jump for the Raiders, reaching 5-2, while the 4x400 was third (4:33.1), Shannon Cooper third in the 200 (:28.60) and Daicy Hodge fourth in the 400 (1:06.2).

John Glenn's impressive showing featured wins from Kira Kaiser in the 800 (2:30.6), Laurie Baughman in the 1600 (5:45.9) and the 4x100 (:53.23). Kara Fields was second in the 100 hurdles (:15.78) and 300 hurdles (:48.92), Jessica Church second in the 100 (:13.02) and 400 (1:01.2), Laurie Baughman second in the 800 (2:30.6) and Marina Nicolozakes second in the 200 (:28.23) and third in the 100 (:13.24).

Chelsea Sotherden was second in the shot (36-2) and discus (111-8) for the Muskies; Ava Hoffman was second in the high jump (5-0) and Brooklyn Valentine second in the pole vault (9-0). Fields was third in the shot (33-9 1/2), Raya Taylor third in the high jump (5-0), Maya Taylor third in the long jump (16-2), Grace Lawrence third in the 400 (1:04.2) and Waverly Yurco third in the 3200 (13:28.1).

Philo saw Anna Stutes claim the long jump (17-0) and its 4x200 relay win in 1:51.9, while the 4x800 was second (10:53.8). Jenna Lytton was second in the 1600 (5:50.9) and 3200 (12:56.7) and the 4x100 was second (:53.54); Makenna Staker was third in the 300 hurdles (:50.25) and Delylah Boetcher third in the pole vault (8-0).

Stutes took fourth in the 100 (:13.35), Angelina Myers fourth in the 200 (:28.98), Aubree DeLong fourth in the 100 hurdles (:17.20) and Aleigha Busse fourth in the 300 hurdles (:51.86) and fourth in the high jump (4-8).

Crooksville's 4x800 relay team won in 10:53.1, while Paige Frame was fourth in the discus (103-4) and shot (31-11 1/2) and Hannah Sheets fourth in the 1600 (5:55.8).

Bella Van Wey was third in the discus (109-2) and fifth in the shot (31-4) to pace Maysville; Sailor Atkins was fifth in the high jump (4-8) and Kelsie Bryan fifth in the pole vault (6-6).

Livy Wright was eighth in the 400 for Rosecrans (1:12.7).

Licking Valley standout Reagan Campbell won the 100 (:12.60), 200 (:26.27) and 400 (:57.76) for Licking Valley, which also saw Tatum Gregory win the pole vault (9-0) and the 4x400 win (4:24.2).

John Glenn won the team title with 195 points with Philo second at 111.5, Valley third at 107.5, Morgan fourth (69), West M fifth (68.5), Crooksville sixth (41.5), Maysville seventh (35) and Rosecrans eighth (1).

Sheridan sweeps Circleville Invite: The General boys tallied 132.5 points and the girls had 151 points to win the 6-team meet on Friday night.

Beckett Strong took first in the 400 (1:01.18), second in the 100 (13.66) and fourth in the 100 hurdles (18.8), Claire Shriner won the 100 hurdles (16.94) and 300 hurdles (48.39), Kenzi Perkins came in first in the high jump (4-10), Lily Dennis claimed the discus (123-8) with Isabella King fourth (86-6), and Rilea Waite placed first (35-8 3/4) and Dennis second (34-9 3/4) in the shot to lead the Sheridan girls.

Annie Swain came in second (15-11 1/4) and Ryan Satterfield fourth (15-3) in the long jump, Grace Householder placed third in the 1,600 (5:44), Jenna Stewart finished third (2:42.19), Olivia Shonk fourth (2:43.52) and Sieannah Ramirez fifth (2:45.08) in the 800, Nora Covey was third in the 3,200 (12:57), and the 4x200 was first (1:53.72), the 4x100 second (52.24) and 4x800 third (10:49) to highlight other top finishers.

John Skinner won the 800 (2:08.7) with Hugh Sweazy second (2:09.34), Simon Conrad was first (4:42), Tate Ruthers second (4:44.04) and Skinner third (4:44.62) in the 1,600, and Alec Lackey (10:38) and Isaiah Brown (10:40) went 1-2 in the 3,200 to pace the Sheridan boys.

The 4x800 won (8:40) and 4x400 placed second (3:39.1), while Cooper Winders was the runner-up in the 300 hurdles (42.65), Jacob Ramey came in fourth in the 110 hurdles (18.79), 300 hurdles (46.45) and discus (123-10), Reed Coconis finished second in the long jump (18-10) and fourth in the 400 (55.02), Eli Smith was third (125-7) in the discus and Cole Davis took third in the shot (42-1 1/2).
