Track and field: South Kitsap's Degarimore sweeps throws at league meet

South Kitsap senior Grace Degarimore swept all three girls throwing events at the Class 4A South Puget Sound League 4A track and field championships, which began Thursday and concluded Saturday at Ingersoll Stadium in Olympia.

Degarimore, who earlier this season set the West Sound record in the discus, took first in that event with a throw of 142 feet. She also reached the top of the podium in javelin (124-4) and shot put (40-5.75) to help South Kitsap's girls place third in the team standings.

South Kitsap's boys placed fifth as a team behind the first-place finishes of Isaac Benjamin in the 3,200 (9:22.69) and Octavian Clark in the long jump (20-6).

Bainbridge's boys won the Class 3A Pierce County League championship title Friday at Mount Tahoma High School. The meet served as a district qualifier for the Spartans, who compete in the Olympic League during the regular season. Bainbridge's boys placed first in the team standings with 133 points and champions were Ben Crandall in the 3,200 (9:44.42), Brad LeVine in the javelin (164-11) and Yafei Shou in the pole vault (14-6).

Bainbridge's girls placed fourth with 99 points. Winners were Claire Hungerford in the 300 hurdles (45.29) and Ella McRitchie in the long jump (13-0).

Central Kitsap grabbed a couple of third-place team finishes at the South Sound Conference 3A championships, which concluded Thursday at North Thurston High School. The Cougars totaled 126 points on the girls' side. Champions for CK included Mailey Grace Dayao in the 200 (26.39 seconds) and Savannah Fourier in the long jump (16-7.25). The Cougars also won the 4x100 (50.35) and 4x400 relays (4:07.66).

Central Kitsap's boys amassed 92 points and winners included Matthew Rolley in the shot put (48-11.5), Josiah Jacobs in the javelin (149-6) and the 4x400 relay team (3:30.27).

Crosspoint's girls and boys placed third at the Sea-Tac League 1B championships. Champions were Brooke Berens in the girls 800 (2:28.64) and the Warrior girls' 4x200 (1:52.27) and 4x400 (4:28.15).

Klahowya began competition in the Nisqually League 1A championships on Saturday at Vashon Island High School. The meet is scheduled to conclude Tuesday.
