Top Somerset County golf, tennis, soccer, volleyball, XC performers for Oct. 16-19

Athlete of the Week

Somerset cross country runner Emily Fisher was voted Daily American Somerset County Female Athlete of the Week, North Star senior Glendon Griffith was tabbed Football Athlete of the Week, while Somerset junior soccer player Kai Petrosky was selected Male Athlete of the Week for their efforts Oct. 9-13.

Fisher took first in a time of 18:41 to set a new Somerset cross country course record by a female.

Griffith caught four passes for 54 yards in a 35-34 setback to Northern Bedford County.

Meanwhile, Petrosky recorded a shutout in goal as the Golden Eagles edged the Hilltoppers 1-0.

Boys soccer

Cambria Heights 1, Windber 0: The Ramblers were blanked by the Highlanders.

Girls soccer

Conemaugh Township 4, Berlin Brothersvalley 0: Izzy Slezak delivered three goals and Ashlyn Fetterman added one for Conemaugh Township in a shutout of Berlin.

Matty Mauzy and Jenna Brenneman each had an assist. Jordyn Snyder pitched the shutout.

Bedford 4, Somerset 3 (OT): The Golden Eagles suffered an overtime setback to the Bisons.

Kassidy McKenzie, Kylee Chabol and Sarah Boden notched goals for Somerset. Lily Witt and Kamryn Ross each had an assist.

Windber 5, Rockwood 0: Kaylee Dowdell recorded a goal and two assists for the Ramblers in a shutout of the Rockets.

Nici Costlow and Riley Brubaker each had a goal and an assist, while Mariah Andrews and Kaylie Gaye each chipped in a goal. Rylee Baer pitched the shutout in goal.

Volleyball

Conemaugh Township 3, Cambria Heights 1: Laikyn Reynolds recorded 11 kills and 21 digs, while Kendra Huber added 14 kills for Conemaugh Township in a 23-25, 25-21, 25-13, 25-20 triumph.

Alison Matera had 39 assists and Ava Byer added 23 digs.

Windber 3, Salisbury-Elk Lick 0: Molly Birkhimer tallied 18 service points, 20 assists and three kills for the Ramblers in a 25-11, 25-11, 25-15 victory over the Elks.

Noelle Bobak had 15 service points and eight kills, while Maggie Manippo added seven service points, eight kills and 10 digs for Windber. Skylee Miller tallied nine service points and 11 digs, and Jordyn Bobak added six kills.

Wednesday

Cross country

Windber's Garrett Page won the Inter-County Conference boys championship in a time of 16:51.

Laurel Bean (22:25) of Windber took fifth in the girls championship.

Boys soccer

Bedford 1, Somerset 0: The Golden Eagles were blanked by the Bisons.

Windber 2, Rockwood 1: Damian Miller delivered a goal and an assist for the Ramblers in a narrow win over the Rockets.

Jacob Hill scored a goal and Braeden Preuss added an assist for Windber.

Tristan Wright netted a goal for Rockwood.

Conemaugh Township 10, Ligonier Valley 2: Jackson Sotosky netted three goals and Rocco Hagan added two for Conemaugh Township in a commanding win.

Dylan Giffin, Maxwell Malicki, Caven Miller, Dane Rouser and Chris Yoder each scored a goal.

North Star 5, Northern Bedford County 2: Parker Scherer and Sean Hemminger each tallied two goals and an assist for the Cougars in a triumph.

Braxton Sullivan recorded a goal and an assist, while Canyon Deaner and Landon Scherer each added an assist.

Girls soccer

Conemaugh Township 7, Ligonier Valley 0: Ashlyn Fetterman recorded three goals and two assists, while Izzy Slezak added three goals and an assist for Conemaugh Township in a romp.

Olivia Mauzy tallied a goal and an assist, while Briar Berkey and Sofia Stango each had an assist. Jordyn Snyder pitched the shutout.

Berlin Brothersvalley 1, Everett 0: Mikaela Glessner scored off a feed from Katie Lisbon to lift the Mountaineers over the Warriors.

Marcy Dupre pitched the shutout in goal.

Volleyball

Shade 3, Tussey Mountain 1: Deborah Bozovich racked up 21 kills, Kennedy Landis contributed 19 and Alana Deneen added eight for the Panthers in a 20-25, 25-19, 25-22, 25-21 victory over the Titans.

Kori Boozer had 67 digs and Madalyn Rapsky dished out 52 assists for Shade.

Tuesday

Golf

Conemaugh Township senior Sam Sharbaugh shot a 2-day total 10-over-par 154 to finish tied for 25th in the PIAA Class 2A boys golf championship at the Penn State University White Course. He shot a 79 on Tuesday and a 75 on Monday.

Conemaugh Township junior Alex Boring finished 23rd in the girls' competition, with a two-day 26-over-par 170 total. She shot a 78 on Tuesday and a 92 on Monday.

Girls soccer

Cambria Heights 5, Rockwood 2: Addie Barkman netted two goals for the Rockets in a setback to the Highlanders.

Somerset 7, Penn Cambria 2: Kamryn Ross poured in four goals and an assist to lift the Golden Eagles over the Panthers.

Lily Witt tallied two goals and an assist, and Rihanna Hillegass added a goal for Somerset. Sarah Boden, Kassidy McKenzie, Elise McCoy and Josie Steele each had an assist.

Volleyball

Berlin Brothersvalley 3, Windber 0: Regan Lauer recorded nine kills and 11 assists for the Mountaineers in a 25-20, 25-15, 25-19 victory over the Ramblers.

Lynndee Ickes had nine kills and three aces, while Lexi Foor tallied six kills for Berlin. Lexi Fairman contributed 21 assists.

Skylee Miller provided 18 digs and Molly Birkhimer had 12 assists for Windber. Lili Grillo had four aces and six assists, while Jordyn Bobak added nine kills.

Conemaugh Township 3, United 0: Brianna Shetler provided 21 digs and Laikyn Reynolds added 18 for Conemaugh Township in a 26-24, 25-13, 25-19 triumph.

Alison Matera dished out 29 assists and Kendra Huber added nine kills for Conemaugh Township.

Richland 3, Somerset 1: The Rams upended the Golden Eagles 16-25, 26-24, 25-19, 25-21.

Eve Housley delivered 15 kills, 13 digs, six blocks and three aces, while Olivia Svonavec contributed 12 kills for Somerset. Emily Rush tallied 34 assists. Savannah Landis had 16 digs and McKenzie Piccola added 12.

Ferndale 3, Salisbury-Elk Lick 0: The Yellow Jackets bested the Elks 25-19, 25-8, 25-15.

Somerset 5, Penn Cambria 3: Alex Smith netted two goals while Tanner Wassilchalk contributed a goal and an assist as the Golden Eagles bested the Panthers.

Logan Seslow and Cole Johnson each scored a goal while Kahne Foltz, Carson Vought and Christopher Thompson each had an assist.

Windber 1, Northern Bedford County 0: Bailan Rugg scored to propel the Ramblers past the Black Panthers.

Bryson Costa recorded the shutout.

Girls soccer

Berlin Brothersvalley 5, Ligonier Valley 0: Maddy Richardson recorded a hat trick and Mercy Sechler chipped in a goal and two assists for the Mountaineers in a shutout.

Mikaela Glessner added a goal and an assist, while Katie Lisbon tallied an assist. Marcy Dupre pitched the shutout.

North Star 7, Greater Johnstown 0: Lyla Raupach netted two goals for the Cougars in a non-conference triumph.

Somerset 3, Conemaugh Township 2: Eve Housley tallied 14 kills, 18 digs, five blocks and two aces for the Golden Eagles in a 25-16, 23-25, 25-23, 15-25, 15-13 victory.

Olivia Svonavec delivered 17 kills and Regan Holmes added nine kills and five blocks for Somerset. Savannah Landis had 20 digs and two aces and McKenzie Piccola had 12 digs. Emily Rush dished out 43 assists.

Alison Matera had 48 assists and four aces for Conemaugh Township. Madee Roman and Brianna Shetler each had 20 digs and Laikyn Reynolds chipped in 12. Kendra Huber racked up 14 kills.

Berlin Brothersvalley 3, Windber 0: Lexi Fairman recorded 16 assists and four aces while Regan Lauer added 10 assists for the Mountaineers in a 25-20, 25-16, 25-13 victory over the Ramblers.

Lynndee Ickes had 10 kills and Elena Ritchey had six for Berlin. Cayley Poorbaugh added 10 digs.

Lili Grillo had five service points, six kills and five assists, while Jordyn Bobak added six kills for Windber.

Rockwood 8, Moshannon Valley 1: Mollie Wheatley produced three goals and an assist for the Rockets in a romp.

Addie Barkman, Avri Wareham, Kendle Herwig, Paelyn Sanner and Delaney Gould each tallied a goal. Autumn Mowry had two assists, while Kaitlyn Lishia and Sydney Beals each contributed one.
