Top Somerset County baseball, softball, tennis, track and field performers for April 21-27

Athlete of the Week

Meyersdale junior softball player Laurel Daniels was voted Daily American Somerset County Female Athlete of the Week while Conemaugh Township freshman baseball player Colin Dinyar was selected Male Athlete of the Week for their efforts April 17-21.

In four games, Daniels had eight hits, seven RBIs and seven runs scored. She also struck out 10 in a win over North Star.

Meanwhile, in three games, Dinyar delivered six hits, six RBIs and four runs scored. He tossed a 3-hit, complete game against Windber, allowing three earned runs, three walks and striking out 12.

Thursday

Baseball

Conemaugh Township 6, Conemaugh Valley 2: Tanner Shirley recorded three hits and two RBIs as Conemaugh Township bested Conemaugh Valley.

Luke Haight had two hits, including a double and an RBI for Conemaugh Township. Colin Dinyar tossed a complete game, allowing two runs on four hits, two walks and struck out 12.

Shanksville-Stonycreek 13, Turkeyfoot 2 (5): Christian Musser provided two hits and three RBIs as the Vikings rolled over the Rams.

Jordan Young, Luke Walker, Logan McCall and Alec Thiele each had two hits and scored two runs. Thiele also got the win on the mound.

Bryce Nicholson provided two hits and a run while Zack Ryan added an RBI for Turkeyfoot.

Chestnut Ridge 14, Meyersdale 5: Collin Krause recorded a hit, two RBIs and a run scored for the Red Raiders in a setback to the Lions.

Softball

Meyersdale 16, Rockwood 1 (3): Izabella Donaldson launched two home runs for the Red Raiders in a romp of the Rockets.

Amber Long tallied three hits for Meyersdale. Shelby Hetz had two hits, including a home run, while Zoe Hetz added a pair of hits. Laurel Daniels allowed two hits and struck out five.

Shade 7, Windber 4: Jenna Muha hit two home runs and had three RBIs as the Panthers upended the Ramblers.

Tara Corradini hit a 2-run inside-the-park home run, and Laiken Orner added two hits, an RBI and a run scored for Shade. Corradini struck out six.

Windber's Skylee Miller recorded three hits and a run scored. She struck out seven. Aaliyah James tallied two hits, including a home run and two RBIs. Nici Costlow added two hits and a run.

Wednesday

Baseball

Somerset 15, Penn Cambria 6: Owen Miller delivered four hits and six RBIs as the Golden Eagles pummeled the Panthers.

Callen Miller tallied four hits and two RBIs while Zane Hagans and Landon Strelko each plated two runs for Somerset. Brad Bruner chipped in three hits and an RBI.

Blacklick Valley 4, Conemaugh Township 2: Tanner Shirley and Luke Weber each recorded a hit and an RBI for Conemaugh Township in a setback to Blacklick.

Softball

Somerset 12, Penn Cambria 3: Chloe Miller doubled and drove in three runs as the Golden Eagles tamed the Panthers.

Emily Rush had two hits and two RBIs for Somerset. Ava Baumgardner singled and drove in three runs while Riley Wiencek added two hits. Mckenna Sheeler struck out nine.

Track and field

Meyersdale sweeps Blacklick Valley and Rockwood: The Meyersdale boys wrapped up the season with a perfect 7-0 record after besting Blacklick 110-40 and Rockwood 130-16.

Branson Hersh (110 and 300 hurdles), Tristin Ohler (100, 200 dash), Calen Simpkins (1600, 3200) and Jordan Synowietz (shot put, discus) were multiple overall event winners for Meyersdale.

Meanwhile, the Meyersdale girls topped Blacklick 80-51 and Rockwood 99-39.

Grace Hersh (100, 300 hurdles), Rachel Daughton (100, high jump), Liz Cook (long jump, triple jump), and Jasmine Lasure (shot put, discus) were multiple overall event winners for Meyersdale.

Windber tri-meet: The Conemaugh Township girls bested Windber 92-57, and Berlin Brothersvalley 93.5-56.5. Windber topped Berlin 83-67.

Conemaugh Township's Izzy Slezak (100, 200, 400 relay), Kaylee Frederick (1600, 3200), and Lydia Boring (discus, javelin) were multiple overall event winners.

Windber's Riley Brubaker won the high jump, long jump and triple jump, earning her 100th career first place finish in the process.

Berlin Brothersvalley's Lynndee Ickes won the 100 and 300 hurdles.

The Conemaugh Township boys edged Windber 77-73, and downed Berlin 117-32. Windber rolled past Berlin 110-36.

Conemaugh Township's Jackson Sotosky (high jump, long jump, 1600 relay) had multiple wins.

Windber's Joseph McKelvey (1600, 3200, 3200 relay), and Blake Klosky (shot put, discus) earned wins.

Berlin's Connor Montgomery (110 and 300 hurdles) took the top spot.

Tuesday

Baseball

Berlin Brothersvalley 3, Meyersdale 1: Craig Jarvis hit an RBI triple and scored a run to lift the Mountaineers over the Red Raiders.

Parker Black went the distance for Berlin, allowing no earned runs on five hits, one walk and struck out eight.

Braden Kretchman allowed one earned run on three hits, one walk and struck out 10 for Meyersdale.

North Star 7, Windber 3: Braden Livingston went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored as the Cougars upended the Ramblers.

Vance Kimmel contributed two hits and two RBIs while Glendon Griffith added two hits, an RBI and a run scored for North Star. Cayden Turner allowed three runs on three hits, one walk and struck out 11 in a complete-game performance.

Cole Mash had two hits, an RBI and a run scored for Windber.

Forest Hills 3, Somerset 2: Brad Bruner tallied a hit and an RBI for the Golden Eagles in a narrow setback to the Rangers.

Somerset's Hunter Krotzer allowed one earned run on three hits and four walks in six innings pitched.

Hancock 12, Turkeyfoot 0 (6): Bryce Nicholson hit a double for the Rams in a non-conference setback.

Nicholson struck out six over 4 1/3 innings.

Shanksville-Stonycreek 8, Bishop Carroll 7 (8): Alec Thiele had four RBIs, including a walk-off single to lead the Vikings over the Huskies.

Isaac Jamison recorded two hits, scored two runs and provided the game-tying RBI while Christian Musser reached base five times, scored two runs and picked up the win for Shanksville.

Conemaugh Township 16, Ferndale 1 (4): Tanner Shirley produced two hits, three RBIs and three runs scored as Conemaugh Township clobbered Ferndale.

Colin Dinyar, Dawson Statler and Heath Moser each delivered two RBIs for Conemaugh Township. Luke Haight allowed one earned run on no hits, four walks and struck out six in three innings.

Softball

Shade 11, Somerset 2: Jaedyn Krupper recorded three hits for the Panthers in a non-conference triumph over the Golden Eagles.

Tara Corradini had two hits, including a home run for Shade. She also struck out nine. Kori Boozer tallied three hits and Kendahl Stutzman added two hits.

Ava Baumgardner recorded two hits for Somerset.

Windber 8, North Star 0: Summer Campbell went 4-for-4 with two doubles and five RBIs to lead the Ramblers past the Cougars.

Windber's Nici Costlow went 3-for-3 with three runs scored. Skylee Miller allowed three hits and struck out eight.

Eliza Sheets went 2-for-2 for North Star.

Hancock 16, Turkeyfoot 0 (4): Brooke Snyder and Rianna Culp each tallied a hit for the Rams in a non-conference setback.

Meyersdale 11, Berlin Brothersvalley 1 (5): Amelia Kretchman went 3-for-3 with a double, 2-run homer and six RBIs as the Red Raiders romped the Mountaineers.

Meyersdale's Shelby Hetz provided two hits and two RBIs while Amber Long and Morgan Walters each added two hits. Izabella Donaldson allowed one unearned run on four hits, a walk and struck out 13.

Sydney Walker led Berlin with two doubles.

Ferndale 12, Conemaugh Township 1: Deajah Chatman went 3-for-4 with a home run for the Yellow Jackets in a WestPAC triumph.

Baseball

Meyersdale 10, Paw Paw 0 (5): Braden Kretchman doubled, tripled, drove in three runs and scored twice to propel the Red Raiders to a victory.

Dylan Teets had two RBIs. Ryan Sechler tossed a 1-hitter and struck out seven.

North Star 12, Rockwood 0 (5): Glendon Griffith tallied two hits and two RBIs to lead the Cougars past the Rockets.

Griffith allowed three hits, one walk and struck out five. Vance Kimmel and Austin Orris each recorded two RBIs.

Turkeyfoot 18, Hyndman 13: Bryce Nicholson had three hits, including a double, triple, three RBIs and four runs scored as the Rams rallied from an 11-run deficit for a win.

Luke Bowers drove in four runs and Heath Nicholson recorded three RBIs for Turkeyfoot. Zack Ryan drove in five runs. He struck out 10 in five innings of relief.

Northern Garrett 15, Berlin Brothersvalley 0 (3): The Mountaineers suffered a non-conference setback.

Blacklick Valley 6, Shanksville-Stonycreek 3: Isaac Jamison provided two hits and an RBI while Christian Musser added two hits for Shanksville in a setback to Blacklick.

Softball

Cambria Heights 13, Conemaugh Township 3 (6): Katie Troxell tallied two hits, including a triple and three RBIs for Conemaugh Township in a non-conference setback.

Shade 15, Blacklick Valley 4 (5): Tara Corradini pitched four shutout innings and went 4-for-4 with four runs scored and three RBIs as the Panthers downed the Vikings.

Jenna Muha went 3-for-3 including a 2-run home run, four RBIs and three runs. Anna Deneen added three hits and five RBIs while Kori Boozer contributed two hits.

Track and field

Conemaugh Township sweeps Blacklick Valley: The Conemaugh Township boys bested Blacklick 120-26.

Jon Updyke (100, javelin, 400 relay), Ethan Black (discus, shot put, 400 relay), Dominick Hanik (800, 3200, 3200 relay), Isaiah DiGuardi (300 hurdles, high jump), Isaac Berkey (pole vault, triple jump) led the way for Conemaugh Township.

The Conemaugh Township girls rolled to a 113-26 victory.

Kaylee Frederick (1600, 3200, 3200 relay) paced Conemaugh Township.

Baseball

Windber 16, Greater Johnstown 4 (6): Andrew Scalia hit a 3-run homer and drove in four runs as the Ramblers throttled the Trojans in the Iron Horse Classic.

Cole Mash tallied three hits, two RBIs and three runs for Windber. Joe Reynolds provided three hits while Lucas Rummel and Tyson O'Hara each drove in two runs.

Boswell Area Jaycees High School Baseball Classic

Forest Hills 13, North Star 1 (5): Andy Retassie had the lone hit for the Cougars in their championship game setback to the Rangers.

United 7, Meyersdale 2: Collin Krause and Dylan Teets each drove in a run for the Red Raiders in their consolation game setback to the Lions.

Forest Hills 17, Meyersdale 2 (4): Ryan Sechler had an RBI for the Red Raiders in Game 2 of the tournament.

North Star 9, United 2: Cayden Turner tallied three hits, an RBI and two runs, plus six strikeouts in three innings on the mound to lift the Cougars over the Lions.

Braden Livingston recorded two hits and two RBIs. Connor Yoder and Bryson Durst each added a pair of hits.

Friday

Baseball

Richland 5, Windber 3: Ethan Kaminsky and Carson Reckner each hit 2-run homers to lead the Rams past the Ramblers in Game 1 of the Iron Horse Classic.

Cole Mash recorded three hits for Windber while Lucas Rummel added two hits, including an RBI double.

Turkeyfoot 10, Hyndman 0 (6): Bryce Schmidt hit a 3-run triple to propel the Rams past the Hornets.

Bryce Nicholson struck out seven over six innings for Turkeyfoot. Luke Bowers tallied three hits while Gavin Culp provided two hits and two RBIs.

Softball

Windber 22, Greater Johnstown 4: Skylee Miller went 3-for-3 with a double and earned the win in the circle as the Ramblers topped the Trojans.

Kaylie Gaye tallied three hits while Angel James, Laken Havyer and Lexie James added two hits apiece for Windber.

Conemaugh Township 8, North Star 2: Taylor Jarvis recorded three hits, an RBI and two runs scored as Conemaugh Township upended North Star.

Sierra LaPorta notched three hits for Conemaugh Township. Laikyn Reynolds and Cassidy Johns each had two hits and an RBI.

Sara Rhoads drove in two runs for North Star.

Shade 7, Forbes Road 6: Kendahl Stutzman went 3-for-5 with two RBIs, including a bases-loaded walk-off single to send the Panthers past the Cardinals

Kori Boozer had three hits, two RBIs and two runs scored while Jenna Muha added two RBIs for Shade.

Tennis

Somerset 6, Richland 0: Giuseppe Castronovo, Grayson Yutzey, Kai Petrosky, Ben Witt and Josiah Antram picked up singles wins as the Golden Eagles bested the Rams.

Mason Chabol and Alven Huang teamed up for a doubles victory.

Track and field

West Central Coaches Association Meet

In Windber, Conemaugh Township senior Ethan Black won the 100- and 200-meter dash and was a member of the winning 400 relay.

Teammate Jackson Sotosky won the long jump while Meyersdale's Levi Hersh took first in the 400 dash.

In the girls' meet, Conemaugh Township's Izzy Slezak picked up victories in the 100 and 200 and was a member of the victorious 400 relay.

Berlin Brothersvalley's Lynndee Ickes topped the field in the 100 hurdles while Windber's Riley Brubaker captured a victory in the triple jump.
