Top Shreveport-Bossier high football games in Week 8 — and predictions

Here's a look at some of the action set to take place in the Shreveport-Bossier City area on the eighth weekend of the 2023 Louisiana high school football season.

North DeSoto (6-1, 4-0) vs. Huntington (5-2, 3-1)

When/where: Fri., 7 p.m., Indy Stadium

You could argue that this is the latest game-of-the-week in Louisiana for Class 4A schools. It will showcase the Raiders’ speed versus the Griffins’ conciseness.

Watson’s prediction: North DeSoto 50, Huntington 30

Captain Shreve (6-1, 4-0) vs. Southwood (0-7, 0-4)

When/where: Thurs., 7 p.m., Indy Stadium

The Gators are now playing up to their potential behind quarterback Quortni Beaner and that doesn’t spell good news for the Cowboys, who are still looking for their first win.

Watson’s prediction: Captain Shreve 34, Southwood 7

WEEK 8 SLATE: Here’s the North Louisiana high school football games for Week 8 of the 2023 season

BTW (2-5, 0-4) at Northwood (3-4, 3-1)

When: Thurs., 7 p.m.

Hutson Hearron is helping the Falcons improve their 2023 play with some solid quarterbacking decisions. The Lions have been improved but may not have enough to top Northwood.

Watson’s prediction: Northwood 28, BTW 21

Many (4-2, 2-0) at Jonesboro-Hodge (2-5, 0-2)

When: Thurs., 7 p.m.

Many continues to be the odds-on favorite to win District 3-2A thanks to the play of Tylen Singleton. The host Tigers are still recovering from their coach’s tragedy from a couple weeks ago.

Watson’s prediction: Many 33, J-Hodge 18

Woodlawn vs. Southwood Friday evening, September 8, 2023, at Independence Stadium.
Woodlawn vs. Southwood Friday evening, September 8, 2023, at Independence Stadium.

Byrd (2-5, 2-2) at Airline (6-1, 3-1)

When: Fri., 7 p.m.

On paper, this District 1-5A matchup could be a monumental battle between the Jackets’ ground attack and the Vikings’ aerial assault. We believe the Vikings win out especially if Bob Patterson has another big game.

Watson’s prediction: Airline 48, Byrd 21

Haughton (3-4, 1-3) at Benton (3-4, 2-2)

When: Fri., 7 p.m.

There may not be a more contested high school football game in Northwest Louisiana this Friday night than this matchup in north Bossier Parish. Both the Buccaneers and the Tigers need a win to solidify playoff hopes.

Watson’s prediction: Benton 28, Haughton 27

Parkway (6-1, 3-1 at Natchitoches Central (2-5,1-3)

When/where: Fri., 7 p.m., Turpin Stadium

This could be a trap game for the Panthers, who are hoping to remain in contention for a District 1-5A title and a potential home playoff game. NCHS is due to win again.

Watson’s prediction: Parkway 35, NCHS 28

Ruston (7-0, 2-0) at West Ouachita (5-2, 0-2)

When: Fri., 7 p.m.

The District 2-5A title goes through Ruston this year and West Ouachita probably isn’t capable of springing the upset. The Bearcats keep rolling toward a season-ender against West Monroe.

Watson’s prediction: Ruston 33, West Ouachita 13

Minden (1-6, 1-3) at Evangel (4-3, 3-1)

When: Fri., 7 p.m.

Can the Eagles recover from last week’s emotional loss at home to North DeSoto in time to prepare for the Crimson Tide? We think they’ll be more than ready.

Watson’s prediction: Evangel 35, Minden 21

D’Arbonne Woods (6-0, 2-0) at Calvary (7-0, 2-0)

When: Fri., 7 p.m.

Forget what we said last week about the Cavaliers not getting tested again until the playoffs. The Timberwolves come in riding a six-game winning streak and looking for the upset.

Watson’s prediction: Calvary 52, D’Arbonne woods 35

Last week: 10-0 (100%); Season: 60-10 (86%)
