Top Shreveport-Bossier high football games in Week 10 — and predictions

Here's a look at some of the action set to take place in the Shreveport-Bossier City area on the final weekend of the 2023 Louisiana high school football regular season.

Ruston (9-0, 4-0) at West Monroe (8-1, 4-0)

When: Fri., 7 p.m.

One of three undefeated Class 5A teams in the state, the Bearcats will have to go on the road against the rapidly improving Rebels to win the District 2-5A title. Defense makes the difference and that’s why RHS wins.

Watson’s prediction: Ruston 28, West Monroe 27

Natchitoches Central (2-7, 1-5) vs. Byrd (3-6, 3-3)

When/where: Fri., 7 p.m., Indy Stadium

This will be the season-ender for NCHS, while the Jackets are positioning for a playoff spot in Select Division I. That makes this one difficult to predict.

Watson’s prediction: Byrd 31, NCHS 27

Captain Shreve (9-1, 6-0) at Haughton (4-5, 2-4)

When: Fri., 7 p.m.

On paper, this looks like a one-sided affair, but don’t underestimate the Buccaneers playing under the pines and wanting to end the season on a positive note.

Watson’s prediction: Captain Shreve 42, Haughton 32

Parkway (7-4, 4-2) at Benton (4-5, 3-3)

When: Fri., 7 p.m.

Looking to solidify a home game to open the playoffs, the Panthers face a stiff test from the Tigers, who want to solidify a playoff spot. Both teams seek a rebound from tough losses in Week 9.

Watson’s prediction: Parkway 33, Benton 30

Woodlawn vs. Southwood Friday evening, September 8, 2023, at Independence Stadium.
Woodlawn vs. Southwood Friday evening, September 8, 2023, at Independence Stadium.

Airline (8-1, 5-1) vs. Southwood (0-9, 0-6)

When/where: Thurs., 7 p.m., Indy Stadium

Despite their record, the Cowboys improved in 2023 under coach Mike Green, but the Vikings want to put an exclamation point on their regular season finale.

Watson’s prediction: Airline 48, Southwood 14

Huntington (6-3, 4-2) at Bossier (1-8, 0-6)

When: Thurs., 7 p.m.

The Raiders picked up a key win last week against Evangel and now want to vault into the playoffs on a winning note.

Watson’s prediction: Huntington 44, Bossier 10

North DeSoto (8-1, 6-0) at Northwood (5-4, 5-1)

When: Thurs., 7 p.m.

Neither of these teams like sharing the District 1-4A title and the Griffins have the only chance of having it all to themselves. Watch out for the Falcons seeking an upset.

Watson’s prediction: North DeSoto 50, Northwood 28

BTW (3-6, 1-5) at Evangel (5-4, 4-2)

When: Fri., 7 p.m.

The Eagles seek a rebound from their loss to Huntington and want to secure their home playoff game as a No. 12 seed. BTW will go on the road in the postseason.

Watson’s prediction: Evangel 44, BTW 12

Loyola (4-4, 3-1) at Calvary (9-0, 4-0)

When: Fri., 7 p.m.

The Flyers are teetering on the brink of a home playoff game, but the Cavaliers are likely to prevent them from picking up many additional Power Points this week.

Watson’s prediction: Calvary 51, Loyola 14

Montgomery (5-4, 2-1) at Logansport (8-1, 3-0)

When: Thurs., 7 p.m.

The Tigers have vaulted to the No. 1 position in the LHSAA Non-Select Division IV Power Ratings and they expect to remain that way this week.

Watson’s prediction: Logansport 38, Montgomery 18

Bonus prediction

Haynesville (8-1, 5-0) at Homer (7-2, 5-0)

When: Fri., 7 p.m.

The Tors haven’t won this Claiborne Parish matchup since 2019 when they topped the Pelicans 21-6. It’s tough to win at Homer, but we believe they stop a three-game losing skid in the series.

Watson’s prediction: Haynesville 28, Homer 27

Last week: 8-2 (80%); Season: 78-12 (87%)
