Top performers in Upstate high school boys and girls athletics for week of April 1-7

Here are some of the Upstate’s top performers in high school athletics for the week of April 1-7. This is a growing list, and coaches are encouraged to nominate players at todd.shanesy@shj.com or on X, formerly Twitter, by direct message to @ToddShanesySHJ.

Boys

Baseball

Wells Anderson, Wade Hampton: Anderson pitched five strong innings in a win against Riverside, striking out eight and allowing only two runs.

Andrew Brandt, Wade Hampton: Brandt was 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI in a win against Riverside.

Cole Bellinger, Greer: Bellinger went 3-for-4 with a home run and also pitched six innings with three hits allowed in a 6-1 win against Eastside.

AJ Cammarota, Blue Ridge: Cammarota struck out 15 batters in six innings pitched and had three hits at the plate in a 14-1 win against Travelers Rest. In a 7-0 win against TR, he had a home run.

Lucas Cannon, Fountain Inn: Cannon went 2-for-2 with a double, two walks, three runs scored and an RBI in a 9-4 win against Travelers Rest.

Brady Cisson, Christ Church: Cisson went 3-for-3 with two RBIs in a 9-7 win against Landrum.

Tripp Cook, Crescent: Cook was 2-for-2 with two RBIs and also walked twice in a 6-2 win against Ashland (Ky.).

Brady Davenport, Palmetto: Davenport had three hits including a homer in a 17-7 win against Christ Church.

Cooper DeVries, Eastside: DeVries had a pair of RBI doubles in three at-bats of a 5-2 win against Greer.

Mason Farmer, Palmetto: Farmer went 4-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs in a 14-2 win against Travelers Rest. He also went 4-for-4, scored four runs and drove in three in a win against Christ Church.

Ejan Fusetti, Eastside: Fusetti pitched five innings with nine strikeouts, five hits and one earned run in a win against Greer.

Will Fulcher, Woodmont: Fulcher hit a three-run homer and pitched six shutout innings with 12 strikeouts, three hits and three walks in a win against Mauldin.

Anderson Hayes, Fountain Inn: Hayes pitched a complete game in a 2-1 win against Mid-Carolina, allowing only two hits and two walks.

Brody Linker, Crescent: Linker homered, doubled and pitched three shutout innings with six strikeouts in a 9-0 win against Franklin Simpson (Ky.).

Seth Manning, T.L. Hanna: Manning pitched six shutout innings in a win against Dreher.

Peter Mershon, Eastside: Mershon was 4-for-4 with a home run, a double and three RBIs in a win against Greer.

Jacob Prevatte, Woodmont: Prevatte pitched four shutout innings with four strikeouts and two hits allowed and also hit a home run in a win against Mauldin.

Owen Hun, Riverside: Hun pitched four innings and allowed no hits in 15-3 win by mercy rule over Wade Hampton.

Blane Jordan, Powdersville: Jordan pitched a complete game with five strikeouts in a 9-3 win against Franklin County (Ga.).

James Kakaras, Riverside: Kakaras drove in seven runs and went 3-for-4 in the win against Wade Hampton.

Matthew Kim, Mauldin: Kim had two hits and two RBIs in a 5-2 win against Woodmont.

Seth Manning, T.L. Hanna: Manning pitched five innings and allowed five hits in a 7-3 win against Mauldin. He also had a double and two RBIs.

Blake Riddle, Palmetto: Riddle pitched a complete-game shutout, allowing two hits, in a 3-0 win against Greenwood Christian.

Landon Stevens, Boiling Springs: Stevens was 3-for-3 with three runs scored and four RBIs in a 9-0 win against Wren.

Jack Thompson, Liberty: Thompson had three hits with three RBIs and also pitched a perfect inning with three strikeouts in a win against Rosman (N.C.).

Mason Tompkins, Blue Ridge: Tompkins pitched 6 ⅓ innings with 10 strikeouts and only three hits allowed in a 7-0 win against Travelers Rest.

Lee Turnipseed, Daniel: Turnipseed was 3-for-4 with a home run, three runs scored, two RBIs and two steals in a 12-1 win against Atherton (Ky.)

Mitch Wilson, Dorman: Wilson hit two home runs in a 4-2 win against Oceanside Collegiate in the Forest Acres Classic.

Lacrosse

Clay Black, Riverside: Black saved eight of nine shots on goal in a 13-1 win against Wade Hampton.

Hudson Connor, Mauldin: Connor had five goals and two assists in a 15-3 win against Hillcrest.

Jack Covington, Mauldin: Covington had three goals and two assists in a 9-3 win against Woodmont.

Colin Drewer, Riverside: Drewer had three goals and four assists against Wade Hampton.

Elijah Smith, Boiling Springs: Smith had five goals and two assists in a 22-2 win against Carolina Forest.

Track and field

Wallace Cheves, Christ Church: Cheves won the high jump (1.88 meters) and long jump (5.79 meters) in a six-team home meet.

Andrew Daniel, Mauldin: Daniel won the discus (137-02.00) and the shot (44-05.00) in a seven-team meet at Fountain Inn.

Jude Hall, Christ Church: Hall won the 110 hurdles (15.99) and the 400 hurdles (1:01.30) in a home meet.

Bruce Knauber, Greenville: Knauber won the discus (127-02.00) and the javelin (121-11.75) in a home meet.

Alex Mecklenborg, Wade Hampton: Mecklenborg won the 800 (2:04.92) and the 1600 (4:57.71) in a three-team meet at Southside.

Alex Smith, Fountain Inn: Smith won the 100 (11.26), the 200 (23.55) and the 400 (52.19) in the home meet.

Girls

Lacrosse

Peyton Bryson, Mauldin: Bryson had five goals in a 12-10 loss to Woodmont.

Brooklyn Kiest, Woodmont: Kiest had seven goals and an assist in the win against Mauldin.

Morgan Siglin, Wade Hampton: Siglin had eight goals and three assists in a 20-4 win against Irmo. Siglin, according to MaxPreps, leads the state with 90 goals.

Soccer

Kathleen Flannigan, Shannon Forest: Flannigan scored two goals in a 4-0 win against GREEN Charter.

Softball

Aisling MacLeod, Greenville: McLeod drove in eight runs in a 12-7 win with a two-run homer, a three-run homer and a triple.

Addison Sharp, T.L. Hanna: Sharp struck out 13 batters and scored the winning run in a 3-2 win against Beaufort.

Graycie Shortridge, T.L. Hanna: Shortridge hit an inside-the-park homer and went 3-for-4 in a 17-2 win against Hilton Head Island.

Madison Thieke, Riverside: Thieke hit a grand slam and a triple in a 15-4 win against Wade Hampton.

Track and field

Lauren Cameron, Mauldin: Cameron won the 100 hurdles (16.26) and the 400 hurdles (1:09.50) at a seven-team meet at Fountain Inn.

Elizabeth Fincher, Landrum: Fincher won the 100 (12.91), the 200 (27.54) and the long jump (14-11.00) at Fountain Inn.

Avery Griffith, Mauldin: Griffith won the 1,600 meters (5:19.81) and the 3,200 (11:36.36) at Fountain Inn.

Jaziya Hamilton, Wade Hampton: Hamilton won the discus (78-08.00), the javelin (72-06.00) and the shot put (33-09.50) at a three-team meet at Southside.

Ava Harrington, Greenville: Harrington won the discus (67-11.00) and the javelin (121-11.75) in a home meet.

Z’Nya Lewis, Southside: Lewis won the 100 (12.95) and the 200 (27.11) at a three-team home meet.

Sophie Mason, Wade Hampton: Mason won the 800 (2:54.88) and the 1,600 (6:50.47) in the meet at Southside.

Lorena Restrepo, Berea: Restrepo won the 200 (29.65), the 400 (1:08.36) and finished second in the 100 in Greenville.
