Top Performers: Trinity girls golf team wins 4A-5A state championship

Here's a list of some of the Montgomery-area high school top performers from events played May 15-19.

Milestones

Brantley won the Class 1A state softball championship, the school's sixth title since 2014.

Brewbaker Tech won its first-ever Class 5A state softball championship.

Holtville won the Class 5A baseball state championship for the first time since 1983.

Trinity girls golf team won the 4A-5A state championship and its boys golf team finished as 3A state runner-up.

Trinity Presbyterian senior David Micheal Lieux signed a letter of intent to play baseball at Enterprise State Community College.

Wetumpka won the Class 6A softball championship, the school's first title since 2015.

Golf

Tuesday

Pike Road’s Yvette Gorden fashioned a strong 4-under 68 to lead the pack as the Patriots took the first-day team lead with a 230 total in 6A.

Stanhope Elmore’s Josiah Gilbert, who led all sub-state qualifiers with a 63 last week, shot 2-under-par 70 to take the individual lead in the 6A boys' state championship.

Trinity senior Virginia Anne Holmes won medalist honors in 4A-5A, shooting 69 on Monday and 70 on Tuesday for a 5-under 139 total.

The Trinity boys, competing in 3A, finished as state runners-up. Senior Dawson Criswell and teammate Whit Bixenman finished tied for fourth, both making all-state.

Softball

Wednesday

Brantley's Kaylee Navarre had nine strikeouts and two RBIs en route to winning tournament MVP at the Class 1A softball state championship.

Brantley's Kaylee Guy, Mariah Barnes and Navarre were named on the 1A all-tournament team.

Thursday

Brewbaker Tech's Taniyah Brown was named the 5A tournament MVP after pitching a total of 17 strikeouts to lead the Rams to the state championship over Ardmore.

Brewbaker Tech's Khamiyah Brown, was 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI in the 4-0 victory over Ardmore.

The Brown sisters and teammate Gabbie York were all named to the 5A all-tournament team.

Friday

Wetumpka's Mya Holt won the 6A Tournament MVP award after finishing the playoffs with 20 strikeouts and four RBIs.

Holt, Ashlynn Campbell and Lily Davenport were named to the 6A all-tournament team.

Baseball

Thursday

Holtville's Sam Silas had the game-winning hit to center field in the final inning to take a 3-2 Game 1 victory over Sardis in the Class 5A state baseball championship.

Holtville's Tanner Potts struck out four and picked up an RBI in the Game 1 victory over Sardis.

Friday

Holtville's Sam Silas was named 5A tournament MVP after crushing a two-run home run in a 3-1 victory over Sardis to win the 5A state championship.
