Top notes, takeaways from Joe Burrow’s press conference

It’s always big news when Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow sits down for a conversation with pretty much anyone.

The most recent example was a routine post-workout media session at Paul Browm Stadium as OTAs came to a close before the team heads for a break.

There, Burrow touched on a number of subjects with reporters, including off-field topics like gun control and noteworthy things like his upcoming second pro contract.

Below, we’ll outline some of the most noteworthy comments and notes and provide some takeaways, ranging from Burrow talking about some new teammates to even dishing an opinion on Batman vs. Superman.

Burrow continues to pop up in videos where he makes sure to sign as much stuff for kids as possible. His explanation is pretty great too.

“I love doing stuff for the kids, just thinking about myself in that situation when I was little I would have been ecstatic if somebody did that for me,” Burrow said, according to Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com. “If I see a kid I always try to put a smile on their face.”

No days off

Burrow told reporters it’s go time, to the point he seemingly intends to take his trainer with him if he travels so that he doesn’t miss a workout from here on out.

Batman or Superman?

Burrow made an interesting choice in the classic super hero debate.

“I mean, Batman’s not really a super hero but the movies are the best,” Burrow said. “I really liked Spiderman growing up, I would say. Not a Superman fan. Batman beats Superman.

On Ted Karras

Ask Burrow, and Ted Karras, the new center brought over in free agency, is just what the offense needed.

“Ted’s awesome,” Burrow said. “A loud leader up front that you want in your center. He’s above and beyond what we could ask for.” …

How the offense needs to change

Burrow’s expecting the offense to need to open up a bit more in 2022 as defenses adjust (which is why the team worked so hard to improve the line for short-yardage and play-action situations).

On how refreshing this offseason has been

Burrow’s rookie year he had to deal with the COVID hurdles. Last offseason, coming back from his knee injury.

This offseason? He’s soaking up the normalcy of it all.

“I’ve just been able to focus on the entirety of myself, weight room and conditioning, on field, throwing, mechanics, all of it’s not really focusing on the knee,” Burrow said. “It’s just getting back to where I was prior. And I’ve been able to focus on the entirety of myself as a player.”

A trip with Jessie Bates

Burrow’s got big plans with a guy by the name of Bates — and wants to see him get an extension.

“You can put a price tag on what he does on the field, but I don’t think you can on what he does in the locker room,” Burrow said.  “He’s been a guy that has kind of built what we’re doing here. He’s one of the first, and Jessie’s exactly the kind of player that I think you want to reward for the work that he’s done for the last four years through the ups and downs.”
