Westport golf team takes second in league tournament, Smith nets 5 goals for Case

WESTPORT — The Westport golf team came away with a second-place finish in Thursday's Mayflower League Conference tournament.

The Wildcats also received the sportsmanship award.

Owen Boudria, Cooper Spirlet, Abby Forbes and Liam McMahon each shot well for Westport (7-4-3).

Here's a look at early results from this week.

Saturday

Boys Soccer

Beckam Potter, Owen Borges and Gaoussou Traore each scored a goal to lift the Cardinals to a 3-0 win over West Bridgewater. Tyler Lamonde had two assists and Keeper Aidan Parent had the shutout in net for Case (4-6-1).

Will Quinlan and Nyzaiah Pacheco each finished with a goal and an assist in the Wildcats' 3-2 win over Diman. Noah Amaral had four saves for Westport (11-0).

Girls Soccer

Kaitlyn Coutu scored two goals and Julia Hargraves added another in the Hilltoppers (9-3-1) win over Apponequet.

Lily Veracka and Korynne Holden each scored goals for the Wildcats in Diman's 5-2 win. Morgan Pacheco recorded eight saves in net for Westport (9-3).

Field Hockey

Julie Pacheco scored the lone goal of the contest for the Raiders in their 1-0 win over West Bridgewater. Ryan Crook picked up the assist for SBR (12-0-1). Goalie Sophia Valcourt had three saves to secure the shutout.

Friday

Girls Soccer

Lily Veracka and Ella Camara each scored a pair of goals in the Wildcats' 7-0 win over Atlantis Charter. Vivienne Melo and Brooke Crooker each netted a goal in the win for Westport (9-2). Korynne Holden had two assists while Veracka and Camara added an assist.

Field Hockey

Isabella Babb, Maddie Melnyk and Avery Avila each scored twice for the Wildcats in their 7-0 win over Fairhaven. Emma Bessette also chipped in a goal for Westport (9-2).

Golf

Ryan Farrell had a 2 over 38 with 8 pars for the top medalist position for the Cardinals in their 282-291 win over Diman. It's the 10th time Farrell finished in the top three and 19 out of 20 matches this season. Connor Lloyd and Everett Rego finished tied for second with a 43.

Girls Volleyball

Jocelyn Adorno finished with eight kills for the Hilltoppers in Brockton's 3-2 win. Zoie Mussotte had five kills and Reghan Gibney added four kills and six digs. Other contributors were Gabby Farias (two kills), Victoria Gomes (two kills, 17 digs, three aces), Riley Currin (two kills, 15 assists), Alexis Layne (17 digs, three aces), Casey Carvalho (nine digs, three aces) and Madison Ferreira served a great game and played great defense.

Thursday

Boys Soccer

Will Quinlan netted three goals and Nyzaiah Pacheco chipped in with a pair of goals in the Wildcats' 7-1 win over Avon. Carter Couto and Marcos Dutra Africano also scored a goal for Westport (10-0). Ben Novo and Tommy Bernard each finished with assists. Goalkeeper Noah Amaral had four saves in net.

Derrick Camara scored three goals and had an assist to lift the Raiders to a 7-1 win over Mt. Hope. Nicolas Scanlon had a pair of goals and three assists for SBR (9-1-3). Cam Rose recorded a goal and an assist while Mason Deneault also scored a goal. Evan Furtado picked up the win in net.

Aiden Furtado scored two goals while Tyler Carvalho had a goal and an assist in the Bengals' 4-0 shutout win over Blue Hills. Bradley Estabon also scored for Diman (6-4-2). Landen Cordeiro had six saves in net for his fourth shutout of the season. Cameron Cadiuex, Donovan Gonzaga, Jayden Moore and Sean Clark each had a great defensive game.

Goals by Ryan Ferreira, Thalys Silva, and Conrado Silva enabled the Tritons to come from behind to beat Neighborhood House Charter. Shawn Kalunga and Bradley Flores each picked up assists for Atlantis Charter (4-4-1).

Girls Soccer

Madeline Hargraves recorded a hat trick and Julia Hargraves finished with a goal and two assists for the Hilltoppers in a 4-1 win over Brockton. Ava Guillemette, Rachel Silva, Alannah Braga and Annika Nunes were strong defensively. Abigail Carreiro had a quality game between the posts.

The Wildcats received goals from Lily Veracka, Korynne Holden, Vivienne Melo in their 3-0 win over Avon. Melo and Julia George each collected assists for Westport (8-2). Morgan Pacheco and Melo combined for the shutout.

Jayda Braga notched her fourth goal of the season with a free kick in the Tritons' 1-1 tie with Tri-County. Cidney Berboza, Sophia Ferreira and Jenai Kinard each played well for Atlantis Charter (0-7-1).

Field Hockey

Megan Smith scored all five goals in the Cardinals' 5-0 win over Old Rochester. Emma Bouchard chipped in with two assists for Case (10-0). Goalie Avery Plante had three saves for the shutout.

Toni Freitas, Kacey Curran and Alina Emery each scored a goal for the HIlltoppers in their 3-2 win against Mansfield. Kacey Curran also added two assists for Durfee (8-2-1) and Ellia Delisle played a strong midfield. Emily Curran, Paitynn Botelho and Chloe Pacheco each played strong defense. Nick Caron made 3 saves in net

Golf

Alex Reed shot a personal-best round of 38 for the Cardinals in Dighton-Rehoboth's 312-313 win. Ryan Farrell finished third with a 42 and Connor Lloyd ended with a personal-best 43. Sam Peterson shot a personal-best 46 and Everet Rego shot a 45 for Case (5-14).

Girls Volleyball

Jocelyn Adorno finished the night with six kills and two blocks for the Hilltoppers in Somerset Berkley's 3-1 win. Gabby Farias had five kills and Victoria Gomes finished with four kills, 18 digs, and three service aces for Durfee (4-10). Riley Currin had 18 assists and Alexis Layne chipped in with 16 digs.

Wednesday

Boys Soccer

Derrick Camara scored a pair of goals and had an assist in the Raiders' 3-0 win against Apponequet. Luke Thornton also scored a goal in the win for SBR (8-1-3). Nic Scanlon and Shai Berman each collected an assist. Evan Furtado and Beckett O’Brien combined for the shutout in net.

Aiden Furtado and Nevehn José each scored two goals to lead the Bengals to a 5-0 win over Bristol-Plymouth. Olek Lysyl also scored a goal. Logan Resendes had two assists. Landen Cordeiro collected the shutout in net after making six saves for Diman (5-4-2).

Golf

Cooper Spirlet, Liam McMahon, Abby Forbes, Bryton Graham and Luke Santos were individual winners for the Wildcats (8-4-3) in their 8-1 win over Norfolk.

Ryan Farrell continues to lead the Cardinals, finishing with a team-low score of 40 in a 301-308 win over Somerset Berkley. This was the ninth time, Farrell was the match medalist this season. Connor Lloyd finished in third with a score of 47. Everett Rego, Jack Perreira, Sam Peterson and Alex Reed also contributed for Case (5-13).

Girls Volleyball

Lindsey Moniz had seven aces, nine kills and eight digs to lead the Bengals to a 3-0 win over Blue Hills. Kacie Lynch finished with six kills and eight digs. Gloria Moniz had two aces, eight assists and five digs while Vanessa Melo ended with eight aces, two kills and eight assists. Other top performers for Diman (12-1) were Vitoria DeOliveira (two aces, eight digs), Courtney Boies (three kills, three blocks), Angela Njoroge (two kills), Kara Rego (kill) and Autumn Resendes (three digs).

Hannah Storm finished with 10 kills and Jayna Surrell contributed 20 assists to lead the Cardinals to a 3-0 win over Seekonk. Nicole Rebelho had a career-high 11 aces. Brianna Campos (five aces) and Bella Puccio (four aces ) had a strong service game for Case (11-4).

Boys Cross-Country

Cashton Richard finished the 5k race in second place with a time of 17:36 in the Bengals' 27-28 win over Tri-County. Macauley Crossman took third (19:06), Izayah Summers placed fourth (19:16), Dominick Alves ended in eighth (20:03) and Liam Goff had a 10th place showing (20:10) for Diman (4-0).

Will Rumsey finished eighth overall and first for the Hilltopper runners in Bridgewater-Raynham's 15-50 win.

Girls Cross-Country

Alexah Pedder won the 5k race for the Bengals with a time of 21:18 in Tri-County's 26-31 win. Other top finishers for Diman (2-2) were Lylah Thibeault (23:44), Emma Foley (23:46), Nya Martinez (23:57), Aydalee Dubreuil (25:07) and Nicole Mota (25:45).

Maggie O’Connell finished third overall in the race and first for the Hilltoppers with a personal-best for the course In Bridgewater-Raynham's 17-48 win.

Tuesday

Boys Soccer

Evan Carvalho netted the lone goal for the Hilltoppers (6-3-2) in their 1-1 tie with Dighton-Rehoboth.

Girls Soccer

Julia Hargraves had a goal and an assist, eclipsing the 100-point mark in her career for the Hilltoppers in their 3-0 win over Old Rochester. Hargraves becomes the ninth person to achieve this milestone in Durfee Soccer history, which includes both girls and boys programs.

Field Hockey

Avery Avila had two goals and two assists in Westport's 5-0 win over Southeastern. Isabella Babb, Kaylin Pacheco, and Colleen Smith also scored for Westport (8-2).

Julie Pacheco netted three goals to lead the unbeaten Raiders to a 7-2 win over Old Rochester. Karissa Albin and Ryan Crook each had a goal and two assists for SBR (11-0-1). Emily Carr and Addie Finlaw each had a goal.

Megan Smith scored a hat trick and collected two assists to help the undefeated Cardinals past West Bridgewater, 6-1. Emma Bouchard finished with a goal and two assists. Jenea Porras scored a goal and had an assist. Maeve Richardson also netted a goal and played great defense. Goalie Avery Plante had four saves in net. Brooke Perron, Skylar Demoranville, Addie Carrieiro and Emma Plante held down the defense for Case (9-0).

Golf

Ryan Farrell was Cardinals' top scorer shooting a 41 and finished third in Old Rochester's 252-289 win. Everett Rego shot a 43, winning his match while Alex Reed and Connor Lloyd each shot a 48 and 49, respectively.

Girls Volleyball

Riley Currin finished with 15 assists for the Hilltoppers in Dighton-Rehoboth's 3-1 win. Jocelyn Adorno finished with five kills and six digs. Gabby Farias played a strong front row with two blocks and three kills.

Madilyn Botelho had 16 kills and Hannah Storm finished with 12 kills in the Cardinals' 3-0 win over New Bedford. Jayna Surrell had 28 assists to lead the attack for Case (10-4). Brianna Campos served well with four aces.

Gloria Moniz had five aces, three kills, five assists and 14 digs to lead the Bengals to a 3-1 over West Bridgewater. Lindsey Moniz chipped in with had four aces, 10 kills and 25 digs. Autumn Resendes had four aces with 33 points, and 33 digs. Other contributors were Kacie Lynch (14 digs), Vanessa Melo (four aces, six assists, 10 digs), Courtney Boies (two aces, four kills, six blocks) and Angela Njoroge (four kills, five blocks).

Boys Cross-Country

Logan Cabral and Matthew Barboza each finished with a time of 19.11 for the Raiders in Old Rochester's 15-50 victory. Jacob Stephens and Logan Pacheco also ran well for SBR.

Girls Cross-Country

Peyton Morosco recorded the top time (23.27) for the Raiders in Old Rochester's 18-41 win. Grace Kayata also ran well for SBR with a time of 25.21

Monday

Boys Soccer

Mason Deneault netted a pair of goals to lead the Raiders to a 3-2 win over Stoughton. Derek Camara had a goal and assist while Nicolas Scanlon added an assist. Beckett O'Brien had three saves in net for SBR (7-1-3; 5-0-3 in SCC).

The Cardinals fell to Greater New Bedford late, 1-0. Leading scorer Gaoussou Traore moved over to defense while our true center back Logan Leonardo played keeper as Case battles some injuries.

Girls Volleyball

Hannah Storm had a career-high 28 kills and added four aces to help lead Case past Bridgewater-Raynham. Madilyn Botelho chipped in with 12 kills and 22 digs. Jayna Surrell had 41 assists and Nicole Rebelho finished with 25 digs and four aces. Ali Ulmschnider, Ava Silva and Brianna Campos each played well for Case (9-4).

Friday, Oct. 6

Girls Volleyball

Lindsey Moniz had five aces, 14 kills and 10 digs in the Bengals' 3-1 win over Bristol-Plymouth last week. Kacie Lynch contributed eight aces, seven kills, 12 passes and nine digs. Vitoria DeOliveira chipped in with two aces, 13 passes and 31 digs. Gloria Moniz had three kills and 16 assists for Diman (10-1). Other players who contributed were Vanessa Melo (two aces, three kills, 10 assists), Courtney Boies (four aces, six kills, five blocks) and Angela Njoroge (seven blocks).
