40 girls soccer players to watch in the Greater Savannah area in 2024

The high school soccer season has kicked off throughout Georgia and there is excitement in the air for a number of girls teams in the Greater Savannah area.

St. Vincent's is looking to make another deep run in Class 3A under new coaches Sarah Stewart and Ciara Thomas, and Savannah Country Day and Calvary Day are also looking to contend for a title in Region 3-3A.

Richmond Hill is back after making a run to the Class 7A state quarterfinals and finishing the season with a 15-1 record.

Here's a look at the top girls players to watch this season in the Greater Savannah area.

Abby Walsh, Calvary Day

The junior striker is a prolific scorer for the Cavs, and she racked up 40 goals with nine assists last season to earn All-Greater Savannah first-team honors.

Sophia Okumu, Savannah Country Day

The junior is a difference-maker for SCD coach David Hooker. She had 15 goals and three assists in 10 games last year and was an All-Greater Savannah first-team selection.

Madison Haldeman, Richmond Hill

The senior defender anchored a back line that gave up just eight goals in 16 matches for the Wildcats, won a region title and advanced to the Class 7A Elite Eight. She has signed to play at Emory & Henry College.

Amelia Reci, Savannah Arts

Reci established herself as one of the top underclassmen in the state last season as she amassed 43 goals with 10 assists for a Panther squad that reached the Class 2A state quarterfinals. She was an All-Greater Savannah first-team pick.

Gray Holmes, St. Andrew's

Holmes helped lead the Lions to the GIAA Class 3A state title match in Macon. The junior was a first-team All-Greater Savannah pick and had eight goals and four assists on the year.

Olivia Gentner, Islands

The senior midfielder was an All-Greater Savannah first-team pick last season when she scored 11 goals with nine assists to earn Region 3-4A Player of the Year honors.

Haley Beddow, St. Vincent's

Beddow anchored the back line for a Saints' squad that won the Region 3-3A title and advanced to the Class 3A state semis, where they lost to Bremen in double overtime. She led a defense that allowed just 20 goals in 17 matches and also had eight goals and six assists to earn All-Greater Savannah first-team honors.

Sydney Berkman, St. Andrew's

The junior was a key defender for the Lion squad that reached the GIAA state finals, leading a team that allowed just one goal per game. She was a GIAA All-State pick.

Kamryn Martinez, Richmond Hill

The sophomore is back after a stellar freshman campaign with the Wildcats. She led a defense with 13 shutouts and allowed just eight goals in a 15-1 season.

AC Davis, Savannah Country Day

The senior captain is back on an SCD squad that reached the Class 3A state quarterfinals last season and finished with a record of 13-2. She had nine goals and eight assists in nine matches last season.

Harris Stone, Savannah Country Day

The junior midfielder was a key player for the Hornets with 11 goals and a pair of assists last season.

Iris Turner, Richmond Hill

The sophomore midfielder is back after a solid freshman season where she scored six goals with an assist as a presence in the middle of the field for the Wildcats.

Ella Peterson, Richmond Hill

Peterson was the second-leading scorer for Richmond Hill last year with 12 goals and 11 assists and is looking to play an even bigger role this season.

Maddy Kelly, St. Vincent's

Kelly is a consistent force as a center midfielder who can also play defense. She had six assists and a pair of goals last season as the Saints reached the Final Four.

Riley Fetzner, Savannah Arts

The senior goalkeeper was excellent in the net last year for the Panthers. She had five shutouts and 39 saves with a 1.17 goals against average.

Aimee Silvoy, Islands

The senior was a star on the backline last season for the Sharks as she earned Region 3-4A Defensive Player of the Year honors.

Carlee Hurst, Calvary Day

The senior captain is back after dishing out nine assists last year with four goals for a Calvary squad that reached the Sweet 16 of the Class 3A playoffs.

Alysia Estrada, Bradwell

The senior played in the Coastal Empire All-Star game last year representing the Tigers.

Reis Scholl, Calvary Day

The senior is back after earning a spot in the 2023 Coastal Empire All-Star game last season.

Scarlett Jackson, Calvary Day

The junior is a versatile athlete for the Cavs who was a Coastal Empire All-Star game selection last season.

Dayanara Figueroa, Effingham County

The senior goalkeeper is a leader on and off the field for the Rebels.

Holly Kachmar, Islands

The attacking center midfielder is a key player for the Shark squad that finished second in Region 3-4A last year. She was an All-Region selection last season.

Brooks Burnsed, Effingham County

The sophomore netted six goals as a freshman and is expected to have a big impact this season.

Kate Clark, Richmond Hill

The junior captain had five goals and nine assists as a key player for the Wildcats.

Satori Bell, Richmond Hill

The sophomore is a standout on the back line for Richmond Hill.

Ava Thomas, Savannah Arts

The junior returns after netting seven goals with four assists last season.

Angela Oetting, Savannah Arts
