The top 16 girls basketball players to watch in MetroWest and Milford in 2023-24
Talent returned in droves to MetroWest girls basketball programs this winter.
Four Daily News All-Stars are back surrounded by a drove of players that will contend this season.
Of the 18 area teams that qualified for last year's postseason, 10 reached the Sweet 16. Millis made it all the way to the Division 5 state final. Dover-Sherborn, Hudson and Medway each advanced to the Division 4 quarterfinals.
Boys basketball: The top 17 boys basketball players to watch in MetroWest and Milford in 2023-24
Keep an eye out for these 17 players on the court this winter:
Brooke Adams, junior, Algonquin
She was named an honorable mention Central Mass. Division 1 All-Star after finishing fourth in the Midland Wachusett A league in scoring. Adams averaged 9.6 points per game and hit double digits 12 times. Algonquin qualified for the state tournament a season ago.
Kristina Bruce, sophomore, Hudson
She helped the Hawks to the Division 3 Elite 8 averaging 10 points per game as a freshman. Bruce put up double-digit scoring numbers 15 times, including in nine of Hudson's last 12 games. That earned her honorable mention Central Mass. Division 3 All-Star status.
Rachel Carpenter, junior, Westborough
A top-five scorer in the Mid Wach B league, she averaged 11.7 points per game. Carpenter was an honorable mention Central Mass. Division 2 All-Star after Westborough qualified for the state tournament. She registered two 20-point games.
Phoebe Carroll, sophomore, Hopedale
She ranked second in the Dual Valley conference in scoring averaging 12 points and 12 rebounds per game. The DVC All-Star led Hopedale to the Division 5 Sweet 16. Caroll finished last season with a season-high 24 points against Taconic in the state tournament.
Sam Collette, junior, Hudson
The Division 3 Central Mass. honorable mention all-star scored 9.8 points per game. She reached double figures in 13 games, as the Hawks pushed to the Division 3 quarterfinals.
Chloe Fales, junior, Franklin
She was named a Hockomock all-star last season, as the Panthers reached the Sweet 16. The 5-foot-6 shooting guard also plays for the Mass Huskies AAU team. Fales defends and rebounds well despite her size and attacks the basket fearlessly. Her outside shot threatens defenses.
Ella Getz, sophomore, Worcester Academy
She exploded onto the scene as a freshman at Wayland last year, scoring 12 points with 8.2 rebounds per game. Getz was named the Dual-County Small Co-MVP and started all 22 games. She earned Westborough Invitational MVP.
Erica Hills, senior, Dover-Sherborn
She nearly averaged a double-double as a junior scoring 13.1 points per game with nine rebounds. The Raiders' MVP was also a TVL All-Star. Hills powered D-S to the Division 3 Elite Eight. She will continue her career at Hamilton next year.
Sophia Hjerpe, senior, Algonquin
After helping the Titans to their best girls volleyball season ever, Hjerpe will bring her imposing size and athleticism to the hardwood. She was named a Division 1 Central Mass. honorable mention all-star a season ago leading Algonquin to the state tournament. Hjerpe averaged 8.4 points per game last season, a top-10 mark in the Mid Wach A.
Bella Miele, sophomore, Marlborough
She reached double figures in every game of her freshman season. Her 21.4 points per game led the Mid Wach B League and ranked third in Central Mass. The Mid Wach B MVP torched Shepherd Hill for 33 points and led the Panthers to the Division 2 state tournament.
Allie Regan, junior, Framingham
Her older sister Katie is off to Western New England after a 1,000-point career with the Flyers, leaving big shoes to fill. Allie was a Bay State All-Star last season aiding Framingham's Division 1 Sweet 16 run. The small forward also plays for the Mass Huskies AAU team.
Elliana Scalabrine, junior, Dover-Sherborn
She helped the Raiders to their first ever TVL Small title a season ago, as D-S advanced to the Division 3 Elite 8. Scalabrine was named a TVL All-Star. She is an opportunistic defender, utilizing her length in the open floor, and a dangerous 3-point shooter.
Evie Schwartz, junior, Lincoln-Sudbury
She was named a Dual County All-star a season ago and will need to step into a larger role after the Warriors graduated three other DCL all-stars, including MVP Abby Cushing, after a Sweet 16 run.
Annabelle Semeter, senior, Westborough
The 5-foot-10 senior is fresh off winning a volleyball state title with the Rangers. She was named an honorable mention Division 2 Central Mass. All-Star. Semeter ranked second in the Mid Wach B scoring 14.5 points per game. She only failed to reach double digits in two of Westborough's 23 games and racked up three 20-point games.
Megan Simpson, junior, Holliston
The two-time team MVP averaged 20.7 points per game, second in the TVL. She put up at least 25 seven times and poured in 31 in a Division 2 state tournament win over Somerset Berkley. Simpson will captain the Panthers this season.
Riley Whittier, junior, AMSA
She ranked in the top 20 in Central Mass. scoring 15.4 points per game. After a slow start with just three points against Marlborough in the opener, Whittier exploded for five 20 point games. The Eagles reached the Division 3 state tournament.
