Tom Izzo, son Steven share emotional interview after Michigan State's senior night win

Michigan State basketball's senior night was different for coach Tom Izzo this season, as Izzo shared the night with his son, walk-on Steven Izzo, who's in his final season with the Spartans.

Tom Izzo and Steven Izzo shared a heartfelt moment together as the father-son duo appeared in a postgame interview on the Big Ten Network immediately following Michigan State's 53-49 win over Northwestern on Wednesday night.

"You've been waiting five years for (kissing the floor on senior night)," Big Ten Network sideline reporter Andy Katz said to Steven Izzo.

"A lot longer than that," Steven Izzo replied.

Steven continued, sharing a few tears in the process.

"I'm so thankful that he allowed me to walk on five years ago," he said. "It's been the greatest decision that I've ever made. No matter how hard the lifts are or how long meetings go, it's all worth it at the end of the day. And I'm just so grateful I get to do it with you."

Tom Izzo then shared his thoughts on senior night with his son.

"Well, I tell every man and woman out there that coaches a men's or women's sport." Izzo said, "If you can have your son or daughter with you, there's nothing better. There's nothing better, man. We've all sacrificed a lot, a lot of coaches have sacrificed more than I do, but getting some of that back, it means the world to me."

Earlier this season, Steven Izzo scored his first career points in a 73-55 win over Rutgers in January, entering late in the second half with the game out of reach and confidently hit an and-one layup over a Rutgers defender. It was a moment in which an arena full of Michigan State fans shared the Izzos' jubilation.

"That's the thrill of a dad," Tom Izzo said after the game in January. "It's a thrill of a lifetime, and I love the fact that my players were probably more excited than I was."

Prior to that, Steven elicited an emotional response from his father after he hit a pair of free throws in an exhibition game.

Steven Izzo did not appear in his final home game with the Spartans. In his five seasons in East Lansing, he has appeared in 43 games and played 51 minutes with three career points.
