Todd McShay makes his latest pick for the Colts

NFL Draft
NFL Draft

The Indianapolis Colts hold the 15th overall pick in this year’s NFL Draft. And ESPN Draft analyst Todd McShay has weighed in on his pick for the Colts.

McShay broke down the first three rounds for every team today. Here is how the draft went for the Colts.

Round 1 (15th)- Forrest Lamp, G- Western Kentucky

Round 2 (46th)- Jordan Willis, DE- Kansas State

Round 3 (80th)- ArDarius Stewart, WR- Alabama

This might be the first mock draft I have seen this year that has the Colts going offense early and often. And while the Colts could use a player like Lamp, taking a receiver in the third round might be a stretch.

The draft is loaded with defensive talent, including a deep corner class. Something the Colts desperately need.

Here is what McShay had to say about his picks.

Nearly 80 percent of the Colts’ designed runs last year were inside or outside the zone, and Lamp is a highly athletic O-lineman who would thrive in such a scheme. The Colts need to find a way to improve their pass rush, and Willis had good production at Kansas State. He tested off the charts at the combine, but that type of elite athleticism didn’t always show up on tape. Stewart has reliable hands, and the Colts are still searching for a consistent No. 2 to play opposite of T.Y. Hilton; Donte Moncrief struggled with injuries last season, and Phillip Dorsett has just 51 catches in two seasons.

Moncrief struggled with injuries in 2016, but a healthy Donte back and the Colts still have their number 2 receiver. Again I see the Colts headed in the defensive direction early and often.

As for the Lamp pick, I would be okay with that at 15. It is not a pressing need but a solid choice at this point in the draft. Especially if Reuben Foster is off the board at this point.
