Titans maintain perfect streak, dominate Glen Ullin-Hebron Bearcats

Sep. 13—GLEN ULLIN, N.D. — The Trinity Titans extended their season to a still-perfect 4-0 and rolled to another straight-sets victory on Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2023 over the Glen Ullin-Hebron Bearcats on the road, and the team hasn't lost a set during the regular season. In fact, the only set the Titans lost this year was in their first outing versus Kenmare/Bowbells at the Coal Country Tournament waaaay back on Aug. 26, and since then each game seems to more-firmly cement the team's standing in Class B volleyball, where they are currently ranked third behind only #1 May-Port-CG and Northern Cass.

"It's been really nice to see — over the past couple of matches — to be consistent at playing our speed," Trinity head coach Breanna Sisson said.

THS won over Region 7 rivals Glen Ullin-Hebron by scores of 25-14, 25-10 and 25-10, and it was another dominating performance on both sides of the net. Senior Helena Pavek pounded a team-leading 8 kills in the contest, while her classmates Melissa Zach and Olivia Kessel contributed 6 apiece to keep the Titans ahead, throughout.

"I was really impressed with our ability to just stay playing at a high level," Sisson said. "A lot of times, volleyball is a game of momentum swings and we didn't let any big plays rattle us ... whenever the ball crossed the net, we were able to play at a high level and maintain that consistently throughout the match."

Delaney Deschamps had another brilliant performance, setting up the offense with 26 assists and nailing down 3 kills of her own, but also was dominant on the defensive side of the net with 6 digs in the series. Junior Bella Kovash led the way with 7 digs and Elly McAvoy proved impermeable with another 6 of her own, while senior Ava Jahner dug out 5 and killed 5 on the offense with a team-high 3 aces on the night.

"Delaney does such a great job of distributing the ball to all our hitters, giving equal opportunities or at least finding a hitter that's been on," Sisson said. "She does a great job defensively — and setting up our offense to mix things up — and I think that's really our go-to for our game-plan: To get our hitters enough swings and keep their defense guessing at what we're going to do."

Next-up for the Titans will be a short, week-long hiatus — which might be helpful for the team to get some much-needed rest given their torrid pace — then they will host Hazen on Sept. 19. The Bearcats will play the Bison in the interim, hosting Hazen on Sept. 12 before heading to the Valley City Tournament over this weekend.

"We don't see Hazen until next Tuesday, and so we're going to take the next two practices to break down into some skill work, fine-tune some weaknesses and then just be competitive in practice," Sisson said.
